Have I mentioned I hate the post office up here by work?

'Cause I really, really, really--with good reason--really hate this post office. There is no time to go that it won't be crowded because I have been there at all hours. Morning's no good. Lunchtime is worse. Midday is backed up. After school lets out it gets ugly.

I went to mail something for my boss, and the line was to the door. Then they created confusion by opening up a "mail order only" line that queued right through where there was a line for the other windows. Fortunately, enough people got off the line that that confusion was (sort of) sorted out. Then they closed one of two functioning windows without ever reopening the second in the half-hour I was there. The open window was constantly being assaulted by previous customers who waltzed back in to correct whatever it was that they hadn't had ready at the window.

Then the guy walked away from the only window open for like two full minutes! Added to the lengthy, loud, hostile accusations being flung in Spanish over who cut whom in the line when the mail-order-only nonsense broke out, it was a miserable time. The four women in front of me were fit to be tied, and I really appreciated their haranguing on behalf of those of us in line with no foreseeable service coming.

Until three out of the four of them only asked for stamps at the window. STAMPS! FUCKING HELL, BITCHES, THERE ARE TWO GODDAMNED MACHINES IN THE LOBBY!!!!

When you stop funding government services, the quality of service deteriorates. Consider it Reagan's Object Lesson.

But yeah, I kinda hate the postal service these days. Which sucks, because even up to a few years ago they were a decent competitor for any of the private-industry alternatives...

They're also raising the price of 1st class stamps again, did you know that? You'd think--you'd think--with the artery-choked offices I've been to they weren't hurting that badly for money, but I guess not. This is like every year they raise the price. Oh well, at least I still have a buttload of 2-cent stamps from the last stamp price hike.

Yeah, the price hike this year didn't phase me. I have more than a full book of two cent stamps from last year, and it's not like they spoil...

I want to see you post in big happy font "I love the post office!!"
if for no other reason then watching the reaction and awe of the response. I want to know how many people think its the end of the world, you started using drugs, or try to commit you if you try :)

Pod person. I'd have to be a pod person to ever, EVER say something like that.

I wouldn't even say it for the Star Wars R2D2 mailboxes.
