Aww, last Pink Raygun review for Heroes. With no predicted end to the writers strike, I dunno what else will go on. I may read the comics.

Spoilers for "Powerless," of course.

I am annoyed in the review because I hate when plots revolve around everyone being an idiot. That's not a spoiler, by the by. That's my outlook on the entire season. When your story is dependent on everyone acting, at all times in every situation, as though they're competing for the role of the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, it's not going to blow up my skirts.

Speaking of the Wiz, though:

I think Tin Man picked up a little bit last night, though overall my impressions of it border on lukewarm appreciation to indifference. I'm not reaching to turn it off, not now that I've invested four hours in it, but I'm not anticipating each new installment with any especial fervor.

I do love Alan Cumming as the "scarecrow" character, Glitch. He's so charming as an idiot savant. One scene last night broke the fourth wall a bit as Alan Cumming is a raging bisexual and he didn't quite cover his glee at being man-handled by one character. Even for the happy-go-lucky Glitch, the sort of grin on his face was a bit much. Oh, Alan Cumming, you slut. He's really a fabulous actor when he gets the right role, and he's got such a winning smile. I'm glad he's in Tin Man because he's the only one who seems to be having any fun, and, ideally, that would be the case for any homage to this particular work (which so lends itself to caricature and ridicule). He's probably just jealous he didn't get to wear Zooey Daschenal's Dorothy get-up.

The "cowardly lion" is useless but harmless. I like the actor playing the tin man, but I feel like the character is just cookie-cut out of a Wyatt Earp serial (point of fact, I think his name is Wyatt). I really do like the actor, so I'm very forgiving. Would that I could figure out the reason the miniseries is named for him.

Perhaps its because, scarecrow aside, the lead character is dull as ditchwater. Can anyone show me something in which Zooey Daschenal has actually acted? She's just not good. At anything. In roles of suitable liveliness, she can bounce around cutely, but "DG" is somewhat solemn and overwhelmed, which ZD (heh) just plays as zombie-like. When she goes to do something, I am always startled because I wasn't expected the mannequin to move. I have a hard time seeing why she should be the rally point for anyone, let alone savior of the O.Z. (sigh, the acronyms kill me). She was the most frustrating part of what was otherwise a fairly decently cast Hitchhiker's movie, too. Martin Freeman and Sam Rockwell were so good, and she just didn't even register as worthy of either of their attention (especially not when Zaphod has so very much else going for him and is vainer than a peacock).

I should check to see how much longer this is meant to go on. ::checks:: Hmm, seems like it ends tonight. Well, they've got a lot of ground to cover. They haven't really seemed to get anywhere just yet, and they've had four hours so far...
