First, my cousin sent me an e-mail about Ben Stein ranting about how he doesn't feel persecuted if people shove Christmas down his throat (he's Jewish), and now this? How did I not know about this? I feel ashamed for each episode of "Win Ben Stein's Money" that I ever watched (and not just because I am implicit in propelling Jimmy Kimmel's career).

Surprise, surprise, the filmmakers were less than honest about their intentions to paint adherence to scientific principles as discrimination, cover-up, and academic fraud. Like this last bit:

Dr. Scott, whose organization advocates for the teaching of evolution and against what it calls the intrusion of creationism and other religious doctrines in science classes, said the filmmakers were exploiting Americans’ sense of fairness as a way to sell their religious views.

Wake up, morons. Science? IS NOT ABOUT FAIR PLAY. It's about proof. I don't care how many people you can push through the Creation Museum or sway with promises that the great sky fairy is going to make us liberals burn in hell. Can you show me the finger of your Intelligent Designer on a planarian? No? THEN FUCK OFF. And, preferably, DIE.

On the plus side, it'll likely go down along with Redacted, Lions for Lambs, and similar didactic idiocy as a spectacular flop. The juxtaposed Nazi images are a cute touch.

Though if all those appearances were secured by fraud, it'll never get released. I wonder if they even consulted lawyers before playing that game.

These are people who can't be bothered to either learn or listen to experts when it comes to science; what makes you think they'd do either regarding law?

Good point. No, I'm sure that they did not consult lawyers. None of the people being interviewed did, nor did the interviewees think that fraud was likely enough to record things that were asked on their own (if they'd been so paranoid about it, this wouldn't have happened in the first place). If they tried, maybe they could force the filmmakers to give over any edited content (that would place remarks in context), but I'm almost positive that they wouldn't be so stupid as to put their misleading bullshit on tape.

I'm not angry at the scientists for being conned. There's something naive about assuming filmmakers are there for the reasons they say they are, but it's not their fault these people conned them. I'm mad at the filmmakers for their stupid shit, their stupid shit belief that intelligent design is somehow being covered up, and their stupid shit tactics to make it seem like they're not full of, well, stupid shit.

Dude, were you really ignorant about Ben Stein? He used to be a speechwriter for Nixon. In fact, he was speculated to be Deep Throat (something he vehemently denies). He's a hardcore Republican wingnut.

I still liked his show. :)
