I got up ass-early to get to the post office and had the nicest experience there. The lady getting my package for me saw my iPod and commented that she was going to get one to put on her classic rock stuff. I told her I was listening to Bowie right at that moment, and we bonded over Zep. Plus, she brough up Zep by going, "You know there's that one song about Lord of the Rings...?" ::HEART::

I just had latkes! I exposed myself as terribly not Jewish in the process by asking a thousand questions about Kosher rules. I hope I did so respectfully. I am just curious. So long as rules make the followers' lives harder and not everyone else's, I have no problem with that.

Plus, they were cooked using Bunsen burners! AWESOME!

Why does everyone laugh when I say I have to be somewhere for Rock Band practice? I do! I need to practice with my band! Bands, plural, even! I tried to explain was Rock Band even was and how there are actually instruments that are fake (not just air guitaring--how would you measure/score that?!) and how, no, actually, there's not a blow-up doll for a singer, there's just me. Sheesh.

Don't worry. In my experience, ask a dorky Jewish guy (he doesn't have to be devout) about kosher rules and he'll happily tell you all about them, in infinite detail, and then start an argument with another dorky Jewish guy whether Pokemon meat is kosher, etc. etc., until you're ready to toss both of them out the window and never ask about kosher again. So go ahead!

... in fact, think of it as the World of Warcraft of religious doctrines. Get geeky people started on it and they'll never stop.

Well, what's nice is that so many Jewish folk know so much history about their traditions. I'm jealous, frankly, since there's no similar community in the church I went to, or even that prevalent among Christians as a whole. Being Jewish is as much about being part of a community as it is about worship, it seems.

That's kinda like what happened! Except, instead of fighting about what rule does what, it was more the one rolled his eyes behind the back of the other who kept more strictly Kosher.
