You know, I was blissfully unaware of the goddamned Super Bowl until some guy screamed like he was being MURDERED in our courtyard. Sheesh.

We had someone either set off a firework or fire a gun, I wasn't sure with. No screams of murder victims, though--the murdering was last night. Well, actually, the gossip was that it was a non-fatal stabbing. There were police lines closing off that bar at 33rd and 4th today, and I really hope it gets shut down. It's a safe neighborhood generally, but that bar is a problem.

Yikes! Sorry to hear about that, especially as I'll be down that way in a bit...

But yeah, what the F is with sports fans? What about being happy leads them to assault people?

Oh, it's not sports fans in this particular case. More like motorcycle gangs. I'm not worried about random crime in this area, though--the 72nd precinct police station is 3 blocks away.

At least some soccer fans do me the favor of offing themselves, thus depleting the pool of psychotic sports fans by one. But yeah, the devotion to sports makes the established religions weep. It's really...sick.

People on my block thought it was that important enough to honk and yell at the top of their lungs. I myself was at a party intended for people who had little or no knowledge of football, and pretty much smirked anytime someone whooped or cursed. I just felt like, oh please. It's just pigskin. Come September, though, let's just see how my Mets are doing. :)

See, I'm a year-round sports-hatin' grinch. I do not care what team is doing what, who's trash-talking whom, or what city's got bragging rights for which trophy. I enjoy playing sports, and, truthfully, I'd always wanted to play football as a girl, but I hate the armchair sport-os. HAAAATE. Because 24-7, 365, it's pre-season, season, post-season, championships, drafts, and recycle. Urgh.

Whereas if I were to go about shrieking my head off when the season finale of something was really awesome or were I to attend a con dressed up with makeup as my favorite character, I am the freak. Sports are for people who can't embrace their inner nerds and just go with it. ::nods::

Our neighborhood was blissfully quiet. I guess the Hassidim, retired mobsters, and Chinese folks don't really care all that much. :p
