I bought a coat! Two, actually! I've had the same winter coat for 4 years now. I think that entitles me to a new one, no? I'm very sensitive about big expenditures because I'm not vain about clothes at all, but with a coat I am very picky and I know my tastes--wool peacoat style--are not cheap. I intensely dislike spending large amounts of money on clothes generally, but I convinced myself it was all right due to the fact that all really good (not just "nice" aesthetically, but warm, somewhat dressy as occasions demand) coats are going to be expensive.

That whole paragraph is just, "Waaaah! I spent too much!" But I don't think I did. I went to Filene's, too, where my one coat was on 40% off sale ($40!). I believe the second coat was, too, because it is REALLY NICE and it cost me only $80 (amongst piles of coats that were "on sale" and still four times as much), but the tag was missing, so I can't be sure. I'm pretty pleased with my purchases, so I guess the angst and buyer's remorse will have to wait.

The one coat is a gray tweed-like peacoat that just fit really well and was cute (the $40). The other one is black and it has a bit of a skirt to it. Not as enviably voluminous as those we saw on the sisters in "King Lear," but enough to be fun and bouncy. I really love it more now I have it (the price and the fact I had one already picked out made me hesitant).

I also was a good doobie and used up one gift card at Ann Taylor that I'd gotten for Christmas. Christmas 2006. I bought some pants and a lovely zip-up sweater on sale as well as some truly wonderful sunglasses (the tint changes and gets lighter towards the bottom, so you can make steady light seem to dim or brighten depending on whether you look up or down). There were a pair of jeans I'd liked, too, but no part of me will EVER accept $50 pants ever. I already balked at (but did pay) $30 for jeans at Old Navy, which were already, literally, ten times more expensive than the last pairs of pants I bought (yay thrift stores!). I cannot countenance huge expenditures for clothing, as I mentioned under that LJ cut.

I got to see people, too--my former roommate who I dragged all over shopping, and some of the usual suspects for a game of Puerto Rico. Interesting, but not my thing, ultimately. I think I need some element of chance to my games because I'm a craptacular strategist.

And I started watching sixth-season Spooks. Holy effin' heck. I put on one episode Saturday night, late, hoping that the hour would mean I couldn't possibly watch another and be in any shape Sunday for anything. Of course, when you make those sorts of plans, that's exactly when they throw a cliffhanger at you. Nail-biting, I tells you. I majorly ::heart:: Adam and Zaph, so the surest way to my heart-clenched terror is to imperil them. Well done, show.

They also seem to be setting up some plot lines that will affect the entire season which is brilliant. I've always marvelled at how this show integrates itself not only among Britons, but also the world. It's passing strange that they've not returned over longer periods to the same sorts of issues with the same people since that's what real life politics and espionage and national security work entails. So many times previous, they've flirted with this or that person lying to them within their own government and foreign governments/terrorists causing trouble, but then the liar/source of trouble was neutralized and that was that. I like that it's not going to be so easy.

And Jo...oh Jo, you brilliant, bloody hire. They pulled this one in off the street, and God bless. Don't much like the haircut, but well done with just...wow.

The best part is that I pounced on [livejournal.com profile] feiran next morning to share my feelings, and she, not missing a beat, responded, "Yes, I love Adam and Zaph, too." She has no idea who they are. I think I stopped watching this on DVD around her back when Tom was still on the show. Nevertheless, she knew what to say. This is why I love her.

That, and we totally used a magic wand on all of our guests Sunday. Good times.

I could use a new winter coat, too. This is a good time of year to get them on sale.

Great time. Really, a lot of these would have hurt the wallet worse had I not gone now instead of when they first came out. Also, being generally ignorant of "seasons," I don't care if this is SO LAST YEAR next year when I wear it more often. I've proven that I keep coats longer than trends last anyway, so starting post-season hardly matters.
