Nothing spoils a hopeful mood worse than finding out that your boss is not, in fact, out for the day, but merely hiding in her office and being unresponsive to knocks.

Oh, and getting handed the entire afternoon's worth of work from the post-doc. Sigh.

She does this when she needs to go into crack-down mode, although usually there is a sign on the door saying "DO NOT DISTURB" etc. Just plain not answering is a new one on me. And, predictably, she came to me, assuming I was doing the knocking and leaving the post-doc (who had really done) almost totally ignored.
