How goddamned hard is it to get a goddamned outline on text using goddamned photoshop? Pretty goddamned hard, goddamnit.

(I was bored at work, I had the time to invest, but jesus.)

Kind of easy, actually. Just highlight the text, expand the selection by a pixel or two, and fill it in. No?

This is why I can't wait for Photoshop Hero!

What I ended up doing is similar--I selected the text and modifying the selection to become a border of so many pixels around the previously selected text. That worked in the end.

It's not at all hard. Use the "stroke" option on the text layer. One click, done.

See [livejournal.com profile] agrumer's instructions below. Though, in your defense? There's no reason anyone would think that that was the quickest way to do it, intuitively. I've been playing with Photoshop since high school and probably didn't learn it til a few years ago.

Photoshop is totally counterintuitive to me. But I admit that I'm a dumb-butt about these graphic things, too, so I am also at fault.

Um, yeah, what they said. Sorry! But then, I do graphics and desktop for a living. :)

I decidedly do not. This is why all my icons are cut-and-paste. I'm getting a tad more familiar with this ridiculously expensive program since it's installed on my machine at work and it seems a waste not to try, but still, not very well.

Have you tried Googling "photoshop text outline"? http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshoptutorialstype/Working_with_Type_in_Photoshop_Text_Basics.htm God, it's so EEZEE.

(Sorry, I just had to make a comment about as certain to annoy you as my peeps up there....)

I went through the help section of the program which lead me to the thing online. It was something stupid I was just futzing with so I didn't feel like researching. I figured something out in the end.
