trinityvixen: (life is a joke)

Saturday:
I finally remembered to bring the hair clips for [livejournal.com profile] viridian to a place where she was going to be. Unfortunately, I dropped them inside a bag of clothes I was donating to goodwill, and left them in there when I tossed it in the bin. I ended up crawling halfway inside the thing to try and reach the bag. Failure. A paramedic watching from the parking lot of the shopping center seemed quite amused. He also told me not to fall in because inside of the bin it was a billion degrees and if I fell in, it would mean the fire department getting involved and cutting me out before I died of the heat. He kindly tried to break the lot with something but it didn't work. He drove off, promising to come back with something if he could.

In the mean time, I charged over to Old Navy, talked an employee into coming out with one of their clothing hooks, and tried using that on the bin. Success! Of course, by this time the EMT had radioed a fire truck which had pulled into the tiny parking lot. I was brilliantly red from embarrassment, I am certain. They told me not to be if only because the real embarrassment would have been me falling in and needing to be rescued. They had a point, sure, but still. Gah. So unnecessarily stupid.

Another amusing development: I seem to have figured out how to turn off a bad movie without finishing it! I mean, results are still out on that one--I haven't started to crave knowing how either Eragon or A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints ended, but there's still time for it to annoy me enough that I give either another look. I doubt it. Eragon I read, and the movie was truly low-rent-but-thinks-it's-Lord-of-the-Rings. The other was just, from what I could tell, a bunch of kids yelling variations on "FUCK YOU!" at each other in between bouts of complaining about the heat. Well, fuck that, 'cause it's too hot to be watching anything that complains about it being hot. No thanks.

Wow. That's just . . . wow. Glad you didn't get hurt, though.
And that is a very useful ability to have. And you were dead-on about Eragon. Though we discovered that if you replaced "dragon rider" with "massively endowed" it makes a MUCH more entertaining film. :)

I never used to be able to turn off a movie. Even one that I was actively loathing. I've finished many a movie that was terrible as a result. With Eragon and A Guide... I sorta cheated because I'd read the book and not paid attention to the story, respectively. I bet if I was actively watching, I might have had to finish them.

Maybe if I give Eragon another go, I'll try your method.

You absolutely should. It helps.
And I have a hard time turning off movies as well. Or putting down books unfinished. Damn it, I'm just a completist at heart! Argh!

Seriously, I have to finish everything. I'm still sort of psychically wounded from the series I've not finished. They bug me until I finish them and be done with it. This is not healthy, but there are worse OCDs I could have, I suppose.

This is pretty much why I had to stop with the comic books.

See, I'm exactly the same way. It drives me nuts when I can't finish something. When they cancelled Daybreak partway through--argh!

Yeah. The Grinch and Waking Life cured me of my desire to see bad movies through. I still wish I'd walked out on The Hulk and The Matrix Reloaded while I had the chance, but when you've paid for a ticket, I think it's tougher to justify leaving.

Netflix is not a movie in the theater. I didn't pay for The Hulk and even still I stayed. Stupid optimism! Movies don't have to get better!

I love that the EMT preemptively called the fire department because he was sure that, by the time he got back, you'd be ass over teakettle in the bin. Which leaves the only relevant question:

Was he cuuuute?

I don't even remember. He probably called them because he could tell how determined I was. I used a faux sob story on the Old Navy guy to get him to come out with me, but I never even said what it was to the paramedic. I'm just betting this was the funniest thing in the world to him.

Also? Probably not the first person he'd heard of trying this out.

Oh, man! I am glad you were able to retrieve it without falling in. I would have fallen. I am so inexplicably clumsy since having children, and I just fall in the most ridiculous ways - like when carrying a bag of dirt and rocks through the house and falling down the stairs, getting covered in said dirt and rocks. LOL. You would never guess that I used to get picked for dance numbers when I did theatre! ;)

I don't remember how Eragon ended, and I watched it. Of course, I watched it while drinking, and was making fun of it the entire time. LOL.

This weather is hideous! Watch something about people sitting on a block of ice and being unable to feel their asses from the cold. That would be better (if there was plot).

Here, I used an icon with snow in it.

YAY SNOW. I like snow. I hate being cold, but the one thing winter can do for me is snow. But alas, not think winter.

Yeah, I'm amazed I didn't tumble in either. I'm also amazed I could slide my top half into the slot. Given how beastly a clothes-shopping experience I had after that little adventure, I'm amazed I didn't get stuck.

Eragon probably didn't end as ambiguously as the book. But I can't guarantee that in a crazy world where Jeremy Irons is on the good team.

Given the volume of folk I know who just LOVE firemen I'm a bit surprised there is no mention of you trying to get a few phone numbers ^_~

They were all older guys. This is Westchester. I told my sister about my adventure and how unnecessary, but kind, it was of them to stop. She was like "Are you kidding? They were probably bored out of their gourds." Plus, they must know a time this has not worked out half so well because they took the EMT seriously and motored over.

Can't you just imagine the EMT's call? "Hey, there's this chick trying to fish stuff out of the good will bin." "Another one? *rolls eyes*"

Lucky for them I wasn't trying to rob the bin, just reclaim property.
