It took a while, but

It seems the anti-WoW sentiment has caught on. Except for the fact that Tycho has played that game and I haven't, our sentiments are exactly similar. His rage is my rage.

Your anger is unnecessary. Honestly, it can be a *really fun* game. It's often annoying just like any other game, but the parts that are fun are really really fun. And you can play the game and like it and not talk about it constantly. It's possible.

Resentment has set in, though. Too many conversations devoted to this game over the years.

Word. I play the damn game myself and occasionally even like it, and I think your anger is totally necessary.

6 months clean and WOW free ^_^

...of course now I have a Kingdom of Loathing addiction. Funny how stick figure graphics can be just as (or more) entertaining than the pretty rendering of the WOW universe.

I can totally appreciate that resentment, but I don't think that it's anything specific to WoW -- it can be just as tedious listening to people talking about golf, for instance (OMG my step-grandparents) -- or I remember in high school when several of my friends were watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and insisted on talking about it at length around me without bothering to explain even what they were talking about.

Blathering on at length about topics that exclude other members of the conversation is just fundamentally rude. I try not to do it, and I am irritated by and resentful of those who do, regardless of the subject matter. However, I feel the blame lies on the heads of the people, not their subject matter...

I think his sentiment is a little different from yours, it's the OMG I'VE WASTED SO MUCH BRAIN POWER LEARNING THIS SHIT. Hell, I feel that way. I thought your issue was that people talk about it all the goddam time, which you have a right to be pissed about. (A lot of us are as bored as you are with the High-WoW-Geekery, which I wish stayed out of casual conversation.)

*Deadpan Voice*
There is nothing wrong with WoW
WoW is almighty
WoW is all
All glory to the Horde

On an uncomical note, I can however see what you mean about cnoversations being lost to it etc, but as wellgull said, this can occur with *any* conversation topic, not just WoW.
Dont worry, give it a couple of months and you'll also have Warhammer Online, Ghostbusters the Game, Starcraft 2, Stargate Worlds and Wrath of the Lich King taking up conversation space. =)
