I love the rumor mill. Apparently, Captain Jack Harkness' real name is Steve Rogers

How badly would certain folk explode if freakin' Captain America were played by a rather notoriously gay man? Personally, between him and Robert Downey Jr., I think The Avengers movie would stand to have maybe 1/10th the slash between the Cap'n and Iron Man as exists in the comics already. Seriously, John Barrowman isn't even enough to make The Avengers the movie gayer than comics, and that's saying something.

Pre-"Civil War" 1/10 sounds about right....... post-"Civil War" I would imagine it's closer to half. Tony took it harder than anyone when Cap went down. (yes, pun intended ^_^ )

....so that makes it less gay?

Less gay than say, Tony spending every waking solitary moment going "Cap, why did you have to die?"....... He made Hawkeye cos-play cap in order to feel better =-O

So the movie then has less of a chance of being able to be as gay as the comics, whereby the fraction I proposed, 1/10th, should be lowered to, say, 1/100. 1/2 means their odds are better, not worse. If the comics got gayer, then the movies chances are worse.

Sorry I thought you were talking about the comic slash related to the upcoming movie and not the slash to come after the movie ^_^

PS: Slash for Iron Man and Cap right now would look something like "So Cap, how you liking my sweet sweet lovin right about...... OH NOes, you really be a Skrull....... So Skrull, how you liking my sweet sweet lovin right about now?"

That's how they brought Captain America back? He wasn't resisting registration, he was a Skrull?

At this point, anyone who dies I'm going to assume is really a Skrull because that happens all the damn time. If I were the Skrulls, I'd friggin' give up on Earth already.

He's not back yet, but the whole Secret (read: Skrull) Invasion as already introduced the idea in Stark's head that Cap may have been a skrull.

You would think the skrulls would have learned by now, but apparently the top levels of the skrull leadership took some things the earthlings did very personally. You should see the trouble they went through just to start the secret invasion storyline.

And this is why I don't read comics any more. Because no one has the balls to kill off characters ever. You just...can't. I understand that it's a serial, and you can't kill off the hero, but still. Captain America is far past his prime at this point anyway. The Civil War story line ruined everything, pretty much (most things it did that were significant have now been undone, for good or ill). So what's even the point?

I'm not sure that I agree. It may be more accurate to say that the Civil War storyline is a direct result of the House of M storyline. If they manage to undo House of M then near everything but hurt feelings will be undone from Civil War (but OMG I will love Penance forever!).

Oh, wiki even has my favorite bit of civil war on there:

There were bold steps made in Civil War. My particular favorite was the unmasking of Spider-Man and the repercussions. But I understand how it's nearly impossible to write a story about a superhero so outed to the community who isn't an impervious billionaire. (Even then, I'm having trouble thinking of what they're going to do with Tony Stark in the next Iron Man movie.) Still, it felt significant and fun and now it doesn't count. So when it happens again later to anyone it's going to feel cheap.
