SPARKLY VAMPIRES
Sep. 15th, 2008 11:24 am...no, just kidding.
feiran and I caught the first episode of True Blood this weekend. I have to say that I don't understand why it's getting such lousy reviews. I enjoyed it just fine.
Except for the ka-thunk of the otherwise snappy story set-up when the vampire dude showed up. The entire scene stops dead when he enters it. And, of course, the heroine is drawn to him. He sticks out like a sore thumb, more for being gruff and not very talkative than anything else. Seriously, it's "Cue darkly romantic stranger!" and everything gets really stupid.
Also, Anna Paquin's "seduced" face makes it look like she's passing gas. That really doesn't help the dramatic tension.
I really like Anna Paquin's friend on the show. She's mouthy and wonderful and I love her. And, not surprisingly, I am already in love with the unrequited bartender. He's just...mmmmmmyummyyum. Not exceptionally handsome, though definitely good looking, he's just got the right haircut and he's trim and he wears a t-shirt like a god. Seriously, he is to t-shirts what Hugh Jackman is to wife-beaters. (Hey, I don't have to love the Jackman to admit the man makes wife beaters his sluts.) Yeah, okay, he's also a poor suffering little woobie, but mmm, who cares when he looks that good?
