Debate the Third
Oct. 13th, 2004 09:07 pmI can't call a winner here. I can't really be a judge of winning as such. Neither one did poorly, neither did extremely well. It will all depend on the fact-checking, I suspect, and, of course, whoever comes up with the best soundbite bullshit. From my own pov, I'm inclined to think the worst of the president, but realistic enough to know Bush hit the right buttons and Kerry missed the right times to punch back. I know, intellectually, that Kerry makes a lot more sense even when he's being vague than Bush does when he's being specific. Again, as an intellectual, I know that that means most of the country wasn't paying attention.
What's interesting is to be home for the debate. I had to raise the volume up over my mother and sister. I listened to Devin ranting about how she doesn't really like abortion, but wouldn't outlaw it, and my Dad claiming to have watched 'choice' bits of the debate between the Yankee-Red Sox game. It was an interesting change from the politically heated debate watchings to date. Me, ME! Of all people!? Insisting on silence for the debate (save me yelling at the screen)? Insane, I tell you. Me, the serious one. Get out. Must have something to do with my masochistic streak: teeth being pulled, trying to give blood anyway, watching political debates willingly, etc etc...
