Stuff and more stuff
Oct. 2nd, 2008 01:36 pm-This is just sick. A law meant to help out women who cannot care for babies that they have is being used to allow people to just drop off unruly teenagers at the police station. Yeah, that's a great way to show your kids how much you respect and love them and only want the best for them: by abandoning them to be wards of the state when they're old enough to know that that is exactly what you're doing. Parenting: UR DOIN IT SO WRONG U SHULD BEE FIRED. FROM LIFE. OUT OF CANNON INTO SUN.
-We may never see the film if Fox is feeling particularly snitty about it, but we can all take heart in knowing that the Watchmen is really awesome. This is according to the judge who heard arguments that lead to the upcoming court battle in January. His remarks were based solely on the trailer, have nothing to do with the legal process, and are basically useless. Still, we can rest comfortably, die happy knowing that he thinks its good. And Zach Snyder says that if they're thinking sequels, he'll have no part of it. Bless 'im.
-It's an old clip but still really relevant. Especially as the lady in it loses her goddamned marbles about Obama winning the election and putting her out of a job:
(Check out her commercial at the other link. She is unhinged.)
-I like Mike better than Rudy, but I bet this shit doesn't fly with anyone more than Rudy's bid did. On the one hand, I do believe that Rudy was a grasping little bastard with a hero complex who was milking national tragedy for another four years and Mike is not. On the other, the fact that Wall St likes him so much is reason to be concerned, plus there's no way that if we don't give extra time for 9/11, we probably can't do for a financial crisis. I think having people already in place to steer the course is good, but elections are better. It's really suspect when you realize that the people who'd probably grant extra term allowances are seeking it for themselves as much as Bloomberg. I'm not sure I like where he's going with this.
-I like how they use the idea of evolution in this. People are free to be stubborn and unchanged, it's a free country. However, they should probably not run for office. I'm not advocating changing your mind at the drop of a hat. (Look at how well that's not working for John McCain.) But there has to be development of opinion one way or another or there is stagnation. Or, worse, ruination.
