Sarah Connor Chronicles, you had me at hello.

But you had me like a filthy slut as soon as Derek showed up. He had three lines, acted like a douche the entire time, and ended the one episode I've seen with him in it so far dead. (Literally, but temporarily, I'm sure.) So, naturally, what with the emotional reticence, tendency towards self-sacrifice, and the fearsome injury, I'm salivating over this character already. I am going to pretend that it's because I'm that easy for Michael Biehn and this is a whore-by-association thing.

BUT IT IS NOT. WTF, SELF? BRIAN AUSTEN GREEN? WHY AREN'T WE ASHAMED?

And I still haven't written my Heroes review!

Oh, goodie. At least something to distract me from forming any sort of vague crush on John. Because he's underage and that would be wrong. Yes.

BAHA. Oh, John doesn't make it any easier than Derek does to avoid that shame later on. Believe me.

Also: SO GLAD you're digging it! Yay! Your next episode (from what I can tell) is the one that solidified my devotion. I think you'll understand why.

This show had me almost immediately, from the word go, as it were. I don't entirely know why. I'm not loving Cameron's regression to "I am a robot beep-beep-boop," and Lena Hedley isn't really impressing me as Sarah. (I'm also annoyed that the future is coming back in such a big way into the past, mostly because the idea was, at the time, that it was HARD for Kyle Reese even to go back in time.) But I am loving the Sarah-John dynamic in the sense that this is something we never got to see in the movies, and it's still making sense with them.

Cameron: definitely becomes "more" in S2 - and it is fantastically creepy.

Lena Headey: I had problems with her at the beginning too, but different though her portrayal may be, it has a lot of merit that is easier to appreciate later in the show. By now, I love her.

Future stuff: Not to give away too much, but a big conceit of the show's is that this ain't Kyle Reese's Skynet. It isn't built by Cyberdyne anymore, thus it's a different animal altogether: future war included. Not to mention, everything Sarah and company do in the past changes the future, and affects Skynet's development and birth process. Cameron is the first evidence of Skynet's considerable advancement since their meddling. The suddenly wide-open time-door is another. What's fascinating is that so much remains the same, centering of course around John, who is always the leader in every iteration.

And I'll shut up now because I'm going to be a spoilery fieeeend if you let me go on too long!

Gonna have to watch them spoilers, yes :)

I'm not dismissing it out of hand despite its faults, so the fact that it gets better is a bonus, not a necessity. We'll see where the future takes me.
