I don't even have a strong opinion about the 4.5 BSG premiere. I had one shock, which I'm sure people can guess at. Otherwise, I don't...really...care?
And the 5th? I don't buy it. Even if that's what the show thinks, I still don't buy it. I think it's a projection thing. It's probably not, but fuck that. I say it's another one of many, many hallucinations/dreams/visions on this show. I remember being really excited for season four to start. I wasn't even a little rabid about 4.5 starting. With good reason, it seems.

HERE BE (VAGUE) SPOILERS
Date: 2009-01-18 09:33 am (UTC)Also, I've heard interesting speculation that the person we were shown as the "fifth" is actually an aged Six model. I also think, given what we were shown about Kara, that it no longer matters who the Fifth is because it's just as likely everyone's a Cylon.
Re: HERE BE (VAGUE) SPOILERS
Date: 2009-01-19 02:22 am (UTC)I also heard the Ellen is a Six rumor, and I like it. However, as some people have pointed out to me, you'd expect Tigh and maybe Adama to remember what Ellen looked like as a younger woman and that they would, therefore, know immediately if Six were the same face and such. I, on the other hand, am prepared to believe everyone is a cylon, and as such, if you can program yourself not to think of the Cylon final five (or original five?), you can program yourself not to see the similarity, if it is indeed there. I hope it is. That would be awesome.
I'm more interested in finding out what the five did to escape the nuclear holocaust though--why them? Why were they important enough to continue? What did they bring to the table? The Tighs-that-were seem to have been essential to the creation of a rebirth/download sort of device because the dying Ellen said it was ready and they'd just meet up again later. I'm wondering what the others had that they needed. I'm thinking that each had a specific function, but that speculation is just based on the exchange that Anders and Tory had over the song--Anders knows that he played it and knew it by heart; Tory says that he played it for all of them, as though he did so because that song was essential to their meeting up again. (Which it was.) So maybe that was his function--he's the music maker, or the tuner, whichever. (He was the first in the room where they all met, after all.)
It would have been nice to, you know, examine that at all.
Re: HERE BE (VAGUE) SPOILERS
Date: 2009-01-19 07:51 am (UTC)Though that would have required the writers to have A Plan...

You'd expect Tigh and Adama to know what Tigh looked like as a younger man, but we've never seen any Cylon age. The Cavells clearly wake up old.... Which is why it doesn't make any sense that Tigh is a Cylon.
Personally, I think (and am most interested with the idea that) everybody is a Cylon. I'm not completely sure how that would work, and what role all the other loose threads have, but I don't know that they're going to be all resolved to my satisfaction -- I think if the massive spoiler-centric-ness of the last ep was any sign to me, it's that I need to just take the show without expectations for any particular Secrets, and instead just enjoy (to the best I can) the unfolding of the remaining drama as it goes.
Re: HERE BE (VAGUE) SPOILERS
Date: 2009-01-19 10:46 pm (UTC)Well, if everyone is a Cylon, then it stands to reason that Cylons can, in fact, age. So that doesn't bother as much as some other crap that's going on.
