Well, it's my first official day with my boss out of town for the next month. I'm already worried about productivity. She's left me with so little to do. Well, not really. She has left me the task of getting started on a review paper, so I'm going to be reading a lot of scientific papers for this coming month, and, hopefully, getting stuff written. However, I'm as likely to make a sizable dent in that any time today as I am to go running around outside naked in the rain (read: chances aren't good, but there's a small chance I would do it). I'll print papers, collate, find some more papers, read, mark up, etc. Mostly, I assume I'll waste a lot of time on e-mail and lj, so here I am.
It gives me time to write this up, finally: I want to start a movie club. I'm in a book club and a writing group, but I don't have any regular plans to see movies. As is, I sort of cobble together a friend or three to go out infrequently whenever something looks good. So, I'm wondering, would anyone like to make a regular thing of it? By regular, I don't mean often, just once a month, May-movie style, pick a movie, winnow down a time people are free and drop by a theater. It was just depressing that I went from seeing Saw to The Incredibles with nothing in between. That's like a month. If there's nothing out, we could do home-movie night, with a DVD people might not have seen, etc, but I want to see a new movie at the very least once a month planned so I can then go see more than that besides (I'm hoping). Who's interested?
Also: I am officially a NYT sap. I was in the elevator yesterday and a perfect entry for their Metroland Diary came up, and I...I sent it to them. This will be my first non-indignant outrage letter to The New York Times, but some traditions were meant to be broken. I am such a sappy sentimentalist.
