Everyone does remember a little thing called THE MAY MOVIE, correct? I'm pretty sure that, although I've been quiet, all of my friends know it's coming May 1st. They might also vaguely recall that this year's selection is X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The Jackman has steered us wrong before on one of these sacred first weekends in May, I don't deny it. And this is a movie that has not only notoriously reshot stuff but had a less-than-perfect leaked print to work up antipathy of moviegoers everywhere. Nonetheless, I offer you the following counter-argument-proof reasons to see this movie:

1) Hugh Jackman made his bones on Wolverine. If anybody was going to do this film and make it work, he will. He is also very generous and grateful and appreciative of the fans, which is awesome. (I will not use "fills out a wife beater like a gilded god" as an argument. I am just putting that out there.)

2) Liev Schrieber is pretty much perfect in anything he's in. He's especially good at playing chilling psycho killers. Wouldn't you know it? That's exactly what Sabretooth is!

3) Gambit.

I believe I've made my point. Save Friday May 1st on your calendars NYC folk. We're going to the movies.

Dude, Gambit should totally be counted twice, but that's just my opinion. (so hot, so hothothot)

Do you watch Friday Night Lights?

Y I DO! I am a bit behind for this season but I am FULLY AWARE OF THE EPIC HOTNESS that is Tim Riggins. Which I believe he brings to Gambit.

Gambit should be counted twice. I don't know the guy him playing him from anything other than The Covenant (::shudder::) but still. GAMBIT.

His Friday Night Lights character is, like, ... PERFECT precursor for Gambit.

I should be attending, though. I'll be bored and lonely that weekend.

You'll be most welcome, of course, but you will be required to ogle Hugh Jackman appreciatively on your wife's behalf.

How long has it been, Van Helsing? 300, 400 years?

The memory still burns. It burns!

I debated linking to the entry at the IMDB for Van Helsing in that part where I vaguely referenced it. But I figure, unless you were there, you probably don't remember how epic the fail was that evening. The Force was NOT strong with us that night.

Moreover, Van Helsing was 2004. It's been five years. Can you believe it?

Oh, for me the memory hasn't faded at all. It's just like yesterday.

That's fair, but I counter with this: You were unsure of Iron Man, and it turned out okay. Maybe lightning can strike twice!

I'll be honest--there is no way I'm not seeing this movie. Hugh Jackman and Liev Schrieber? HAAAAAWT!!!! Plus bonus of my favorite character.

I'm so in.

Is Gambit your favorite, too? I fell in love with Cyclops before the other movies, but Gambit was my favorite starting with my first experience with X-Men (which would be the cartoon). So, yeah.

The hotness of Liev Schrieber playing another psycho killer? HAWWWTTT.

For the record, I thought it was good, but I don't know the comics. So as a movie about the cinematic character of Wolverine (as played by Hugh Jackman), it's entertaining. As an adaptation of the comic book character Wolverine (or, more relevantly, Deadpool), I can't vouch for it. Not that I won't, but I can't, because I don't know.

From: [identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com
I haven't read Wolverine comics, but I know enough, which is probably perfect. I get what I need to know to be slightly snobby but not enough to be really disappointed if it's unlike the comics.

I'm guessing you saw the leaked file then?

Date: 2009-04-11 08:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] droidguy1119.livejournal.com
Yeah, I did. Unlike Roger Friedman, I'm not going to review it, nor am I going to review the final version. When I learned it was incomplete though, I just thought it would be a rare chance to see how much reshoots can change a movie, so that's why I watched it.

Look, I won't say that Ryan Reynolds playing with swords and being snarky isn't part of why I am going, I just didn't want to advertise my perversion. (Today, at any rate.)

I still vote for Star Trek.

Ah, so you'll need to decompress! Perfect!

And you don't get to vote for the May Movie, dude. Nobody does. I AM THE LORD AND MASTER OF THE MAY MOVIE.

Also, it's the first weekend in May. Which is May 1st. Star Trek isn't out until the week after. It is not out the first weekend in May; ergo, it cannot be the May Movie. However, you are more than welcome to organize the Star Trek outing. I am only responsible for the May Movie.

Saved, and I join bigscary in voting for Star Trek. May's looking like a pretty good month for movies...

From: [identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com
Next person to think that they have a vote in this is getting smack when I see them. There is no voting, only ZUUL.

Ahem. What I mean to say is that Star Trek is not an option because it is only a movie coming out sometime in May. By that measure the May Movie could be anything. It is not. It is the FIRST weekend in May, for clarity's sake if nothing else. Thus it is Wolverine, and that will be the end of this "voting" nonsense.

I'm starting to think that I am glad to not have anything to hold against you in regards to Van Helsing. :p I'm also thinking you'll never live it down, apparently.

Date: 2009-04-11 08:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] trinityvixen.livejournal.com
You have no idea. I mean, if you've seen the movie, you might? But you weren't frog-marched by me in my psychotic days (which are long behind me as you can tel ::rolls eyes::) to see it, so you can't know how awful that was. We all got into the subway and were still staring at each other going, "Did that really just happen?" Then we started laughing and it didn't stop until we were in tears. (In [livejournal.com profile] feiran's case, in tears again.)

I should not ever live this down, it's totally fair that I do not. I made up for it by cheating, a little, to avoid forcing people to see House of Wax. But they don't really know that for the most part. Van Helsing will always be with us. Alas.
