They're making a Dug short!

I was talking about this trend--started by The Incredibles? Monsters, Inc.?--whereby Pixar makes little animated shorts that take place in the realm of their movies (as opposed to the shorts they show before the movie which are independent of the film). I love these little movies way more than I should. My entire family can quote "Jack-Jack Attack" (and does, especially when sitting around in a game of Hearts).

Anywho, I was so keen on them having more with Dug, the really dim and adorable puppy from Up and now they will! Hurrah!

I think it's less of a trend than it is something they do for the movies' DVDs. I mean, their last few movies have had an unrelated short in theaters, but a related short included for DVD.

Speaking of that, you saw the Wall-E one, yes? It is great. Oh, look, here it is.

I loved this one. For the record, I'd seen it already, but I don't regret having the link handy via LJ for those scant minutes where I don't have the Wall-E DVD on me.

What I loved about the "Burn-E" short wasn't just how it complemented both the film--Eve and Wall-E's own frustrations vis a vis their job demands--but how it went so well with "Presto." "Presto" was an amazing bit of Looney Tunes-style fun, in the Bugs Bunny tradition. "Burn-E" is like the old Coyote and Road Runner cartoons. (Only better because it doesn't rely on physical violence, just Sisyphean laboring.)

I REALLY loved The Incredibles short. Jason Lee explaining why he didn't put BS for Babysitter on his superhero costume is just gold.

"HI! I'M KARI THE BABYSITTER!"

Worth it just for Syndrome's reaction to her being that spazzed out on adrenaline and lack of sleep. The big-bad villain looked like he was two seconds from bolting because she scared him that much.

The whole short is fantastic. The first time we watched it, we were all wheezing in pain, we were laughing so hard.

THE BABY WAS EXPLODING!

I think other shorts like "Mike's New Car" from Monsters, Inc. haven't been as good. Still fun, but nothing beats "Jack-Jack Attack."
