Weekend before this previous one, I went to my family's upstate house. I was the first visitor to the place in over four months. As a result, there were bunches of things that needed tending to. So I went up this weekend as well to help my mother and father deal with most of them. I cleaned out the swarms of dead ants and bits of dead skin in the hot tub (it's so sparkling clean now!), sprayed a billion wasps, and deforested all of the overgrown brambles from the front of the house (they'd grown so high they were reaching over the balcony).

I also watched a handful of movies. They were winners, all. Some more than others.

Vantage Point - I was tired of them replaying the same twenty minutes before they did it the second time.

After Alice - The adventures of Keifer Sutherland, Drunk Cliche Detective.

Shutter - I'm betting the Japanese original was less creepy if only because it wouldn't have had Joshua Jackson in the lead male role.

Jumper - You know your teleporting Anakin Skywalker movie is in trouble when the best special effect is Samuel L Jackson's dye-job.

The Ruins - It ought to be a crime that a movie about ancient, Mayan, man-devouring vines is so boring.

Oh, aren't you the good daughter.

You may recall that I just called my parents to tell them about the fly problem at their house and did nothing about it.

I felt incredibly guilty! I couldn't just let them go up and do all that stuff. I felt like I was ordering them to do it otherwise.

Re: The Ruins

I like that movie simply for the fact that all the characters I loathed died. (Sans one. Jena Malone is slippery.)

I was constantly checking the time through the whole thing. No one even hardly died before the movie was half over. Shame.

Also, Jena Malone was the least worth saving and she lived. So not fair.

I suppose I should say *SPOILER WARNING*

You didn't see the extended and alternate endings then..... No one survived. Even in the regular ending they show you a hint that her lifespan was about to get cut real short.

For me the absolute worst thing about Ruins......... the vines! The Day of the Triffids had better plants!

They didn't really imply any such thing far as I saw. She escaped into the jungle and the last thing you see is the doomed Greek guys going to the pyramid.

I saw her drive the jeep away. She got away. End of the thing. I would have preferred she die horribly.

You've saved me some good money, I hate wasting it when a movie isn't even worth the price of the over priced popcorn!!

If not for the TiVo, I wouldn't have ever watched any of these movies. (Hell, I wouldn't know half of them even existed.) That's why I TiVo those movies. Movies that I want to see I can rent via Netflix, but there are some that barely rate a viewing off a DVR. That would be most of these.
