I've only watched the first part so far, but this is both hilarious and accurate and well worth your time if you call yourself a Star Wars fan (but are afraid to say it too loudly lest people think you liked the prequels):

The most damning bit is towards the end. The narrator asks people to describe characters by their personality attributes, not their physical/societal ones (i.e. what they behave like, not what clothes they wear or what jobs they have), and all of the people in the video can come up with a multitude of things to say about C3PO, but can't think of one word to describe Queen Amidala. Just...wow.

(Although? That montage? Reminded me of just how fucking fabulous that bitch's clothes were. Fuck yeah. That crazy Kabuki makeup ought to have been permanent. Make it part of her "alien" aspect or whatever. If Star Trek can paint spots on a human and call them an alien, you can pasty-ify Natalie Portman and dye her lips red with the blood of her enemies and say she's a cannibal alien. Would still have been a better character than the one we got.)

I've only watched the first two parts so far, I am a bit mixed. Some of his comments are really good (eg: the protagonist being an everyman that is brought low and then succeeds, and there being none in the first prequel), but a lot of the jokes/gimmicks are really obvious and kind of detract from the review (eg: the basement in the second part. You'll know what I mean). There's also some bias - people like the prequels less, so they would have fewer memories of those characters regardless of acting and characterization.

That being said, when he's on, he's on. I know I didn't like the movies nearly as much as I enjoyed Star Wars, despite me not being a huge SW fan, but I couldn't have said quite why they were objectively worse movies. Interesting clips.

I finally watched all of it. Yeah, the basement stuff was stupid. It was better just as an extremely nerdy/dorky review than anything else.

That said, where he critiques both storytelling aspects and the story of the prequels, he's spot on. It's amazing how ludicrous it all seems when you take away distractions, of which those movies had maaaaaany.

Yeah, it was like a nerdy film studies lesson. Which I like.

I only watched the first part, and he does have a good point that the characters in the original 3 are better developed and interesting. However, being unable to pronounce the word protagonist certainly ruins his points and credibility some. He also sounds like someone drugged stephen wright and took away the kitche. oh well. just my 2 cents.

I think it's a joke, dude. His inability to pronounce "protagonist" is rather at odds with how well studied he is in film theory :P
