From this Kotaku post, a video of gameplay in the new version of Aliens vs Predator. Which is coming out surprisingly soon, and if I'd known, I would have pre-ordered it for my brother-in-law as his birthday present. I guess he'll have to be happy with Arkham Asylum. Anyway, that video:
I always found that, when I did steel myself for the terror of playing the colonial marine in the original Aliens vs Predator, that that damned motion detector was less a useful device and more a means to ratchet up the fear. It would be much more helpful to, say, give me night-vision goggles goddamnit than to give me this cheerful box that beeps more regularly and louder about INCOMING DEATH. Jesus, my heart rate is elevated just thinking about it.
No, really, what I hear when that box beeps? Deaaaaath, deaaaaaath, deaaath deaaath! Death! Death! Death! Death! Death! DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! AHHHH YOU ARE ALREADY DEAD AND IT'S EATING YOUR FACE!!!

Date: 2010-02-06 07:16 pm (UTC)As for that ad, it doesn't surprise me since the anti-choice crowd has tried for years to win the political correctness war with Planned Parenthood, specifically over eugenics-favoring(?) comments made by the found back in the days when everyone made claims as much. (Back when Dixiecrats opposed desegregation and all. We're not talking about enlightened times.) They realize that their message is hateful and anti-woman, so they keep trying to co-opt the way true progressives tell their stories and failing pretty spectacularly.
I mean, there's a line in that article that makes that all abundantly clear: the woman sponsoring the hate ads say that they are not targeting black women, they're just targeting an organization that they say targets black women. So to do it, they're going...to target black women. I mean, it's like someone calling someone else a racist by repeating, ad nauseum, what that person said. It's like when black rap stars let the n-word slip out, and the reactionary asshole goes "Did you hear what he said? He said n*****. He said n***** you heard that! He said n*****." They end up committing the crime more than the original person did.
Which is exactly what this billboard does. It attacks black women for having abortions more than Planned Parenthood is seeking out black fetuses to abort. Which is exactly like what Rush Limbaugh just did with the word "retard." Rahm Emmanuel, President Obama's Chief of Staff, called some Democrats retarded, and Sarah Palin exploded, screaming for him to be fired. (She has a kid with Downs Syndrome.) But then Rush Limbaugh said "I don't see what's wrong with calling retarded people retarded. They're retarded!" and nary word. It's a very stupid rhetorical thing, and it is mostly ineffective. (Thank goodness.)
