I'm really not trusting that y'all aren't already busy through until May, but I thought I'd try to start reserving something now.

My birthday is next month. I'm not going to do a party. I'd rather do dinner and a movie with everybody. Last time I did that, it was Grindhouse, and that shit was awesome. This year, I'm looking to do Kick-Ass. For those of you who need convincing, check out the red-band trailer. Yes, I'm in love with Hit Girl, too. Yes, that's still creepy.

The movie comes out April 16th. I'm thinking of doing this little shindig on either the 16th, 17th, or 18th. Please let me know which day and which time works best for you. A proper invite will be in the offing when I get a better idea of who all is available.

I think I'd seen a trailer for this thing once before and thought it looked amusing. And I'd be up for dinner regardless.

Having read the comic available thus far, it seems pretty fun. (I wouldn't recommend reading the comic, though, lest it spoil you.) I think this would be, like Grindhouse just something silly and entertaining enough to be worth a group outing. Kinda like how Iron Man 2 will be!

I read and enjoyed Kick-Ass the comic, but I'm actually hoping, from the previews, that the movie might be better! Mark Millar as a comics writer can get annoyingly over-the-top and quasi-macho. I also prefer the look of the main character in the movie. I'm less psyched about Nicholas Cage in the role he's in, which seems like a really weird choice, and I don't know how I feel about Christopher Mintz-Plasse/McLovin, either. But in general the previews are making me plenty excited for Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl is awesome in both media, and there's certainly tons of potential for something really fun in the movie.

I'm expecting quality fr0om Iron Man 2 based on the trailers as well, of course...

The casting does make me question what they're putting into the movie from the comic. I have a hard time seeing Red Mist and Big Daddy as being exactly as they were in the comic, given the casting choices. Red Mist could actually go with the story in the comics and be really cool, but not Big Daddy.

I agree with you, too, that the movie could be better. The comic definitely has a lot of macho bullshit, but more than that, I think the absolute absurdity of the premise, mostly as concentrated in Hit Girl's character, is going to be all the more absurd. Just because you've seen a little girl tear apart badguys in a comic doesn't mean you've seen her do it for real. Seeing a little girl blow the shit out of physically there people? SIGN ME UP.
