I'm cautiously optimistic on this one, here. Tron turned out to be rather cool. I can't believe I went twenty-plus years as a geek having never seen it until last year, but I liked it. It was definitely something that had aged, but that the spirit of it was still amazing. It's one of those movies where you can see somebody reaching for something beyond what was available at the time, and those movies are the ones that deserve respect, whether they individually succeed or fail. Tron succeeded, to my mind, which is why I was a little hesitant about a sequel, but they seem to be doing something okay there. Plus, Bruce Boxleitner's voice...oh, Tron. I hearted you the mostest.

I still have my reservations about this new one. For the time it was made, Tron was state of the art and had a lot of soul. So far, from what I've seen, the new one seems to just be going through the motions. I'm still going to go see it regardless..... but I shall not rely on hope.

I disagree. There's an element here of sadness and melancholy beyond just the flashiness. I like the idea that Flynn had what is undeniably an amazing experience inside the computer and is sorta a recluse now because of something related to that experience. I like, too, that rediscovering an old adventure is being done with reverence. So, maybe it's shallow-looking, but at least it's not, like, a techno update with a talking dog?

Tron is still the movie with the most special effects shots ever. (Yes, still.) And is quite possibly the most labor intensive full-length film ever made. If you consider that they were not only compositing in the animated parts, and the costumes, but any time there are multiple people in the frame, even next to each other, they had to be composited together because the depth of focus was so shallow with the film they were using. They couldn't keep all of one person in focus, let alone two people.

Because of that, no one has ever made another film in that way, and though dated, I still think Tron is visually stunning and completely unique. It's a beautiful film. And totally underappreciated.

It is still beautiful, in its wild way. It is dated, sure, but it's so different from the time it was also undeniably a part of that it doesn't feel like "an 80s sci-fi movie" or whatever pejorative you would use. There's also a sense of wonder and fun that's really missing in a lot of sci-fi these days, especially things having to do with computers. Computers are so sterile in movies these days, and the effects they render are doubly so. It's amazing to look at something like Tron where what was in the computer was as crazily busy and alive as anything in Avatar or Alice or what-have-you that's out now.

Ok. Made. Of. Awesome.

I saw the original in the theatre when it first came out. This one sounds like it's playing true to the story and the theme. Plus, IMAX3D? Well FUCK-YAH!

I think it'll be fun, if nothing else. I'm usually the first to balk at the "son of [insert hero's name here]" story line, but it seems like they're not entirely ignoring the impact of the larger generation. I also don't think they're skimping on the fun CGI stuff. I'll be interested to see if that short clip of what looked liked youthified Jeff Bridges a) is in fact just that and b) looks at all good. Because if it does? COOL. They better do the same for Tron, 's all I'm saying.

I think it looks terribly beautiful - and I like that the trailer isn't trying to sell us with tons of jump-cut action. It's really quite reserved, all things considered.

And not to get all sidetracked by the technical aspects, but all I'm hearing about how this movie was filmed - with the same 3D cameras Avatar used only more advanced, and an insane new digital framerate - makes me all :D :D :D that I have IMAX 3D right down the freeway. SIGN ME UP.

I haven't even gotten into the hows of filming. I'm still just impressed by the visuals as they have been presented. And 3D Tron movie? Yes, please. I don't even love 3D or nothing--it's kind of a BS trend--but I'll take two for this!

YAY Tron! I love the original so much. I don't really care about BabyFlynn at all but as long as Jeff Bridges shows up I'll be OK.

3D, though? Sighhhh.

Well, you could see it in not-3D, but I'm not passing up that chance.
