There are some things we need to fund research for, and there are some things we don't. Disease, yes. Social disorders, okay.

Then you go to Elsevier Science Direct to look for a citation and catch one of their 'hot' topics of research: the embarrassment of purchasing condoms.

Okay, yes, we need to make it so people are less embarrassed about condoms so they'll actually use them more, but do we need a study to tell us "People are embarrassed to buy condoms...unless they've bought them before, then it's less embarrassing"? This is like re-inventing the wheel without the benefit of, you know, a wheel to show for it. Yay, people are embarrassed to buy contraceptives in public places! We should do something about that. Hey, I worked for a six-month project trying to prove -- get this -- that unemployed people are less happy than people with jobs. It was so badly designed we couldn't even prove that, come to think of it...
