Day 01 - Your favorite movie
Day 02 - The last movie you watched

Not my favorite Hitchcock ever. Cary Grant was better in North by Northwest, which really also does the "you've got the wrong man!" plot line more justice anyway. Cary Grant sure got tanned filming in the south of France, though. He looks like what John Boehner is going for with his spray tanner but just can't manage without eight-to-fifteen hours in the sun a day. Story was so-so, though the dialogue was, at times, absolutely first rate. (As were the performances, with a few of the side characters nearly stealing the show.)

My greatest disappointment: although she is still some million billion times more attractive than us mortal human women, Grace Kelly didn't actually look all that great in this. Her clothes were acceptable, as opposed to the to-die-for ensembles she sported in Rear Window. Some of her dresses were all right, but there wasn't anything that really amazed on her. She's beautiful and skinny and has the poise of a goddess. Rags would look good on her. I wanted couture on her. I got acceptable to flashy-but-ultimately-empty. Shame.

A fun film, but you're right--not the best for any of the three of them.

Last movie I watched? Megamind, with the kids.

Yes, I'm playing along in comments. Is that okay?

Oh, no, please do play along, if that's easier than stealing the meme for yourself. You're not the first person to ask!

How was Megamind? Meant to see it, didn't get around to it.

Cool, thanks!

Megamind was fun. Not brilliant, and the animation is familiar from things like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, but it was entertaining. The kids liked it as well.

Oh god, it's been aaaages since I saw that. I barely remember it. I do remember thinking, when my parents told me we'd be renting a villa in Italy, it would be just like this. AHAHAHA no. It was a converted stable that smelled of mint and septic tank and had disturbing paintings of homunculi on the walls.

Parts of this movie were grating for reasons having nothing to do with the ho-hum plot. The sheer beauty of the Riveria is astounding, especially in the shot from the cliffs up above the city of Nice. It's just breathtaking. And the houses! To die!

And the stupid rich people just go and throw an obnoxious costume party that's not so much costumes as it is rich people dressing like French nobility right at the time when those nobles got their heads chopped off. What a waste.

Er, why? I mean, it's fine. But everything in it, every plot line, performance, and line of dialogue has been done better--by Hitchcock himself, no less.
