Oh, how I've missed these.
As ever, it skewers these movies...with love! I particularly enjoy Green Lantern getting pissed off about how he doesn't just have to compete against one Marvel hero, he's got to compete against three (if you count the X-Men as a unit; if not...). Because, really, DC, your tent-pole movie is Green Lantern this year? Still no Wonder Woman? Not even the goddamned Flash? (Who, I guarantee, has better name recognition.) I bet you we see the backside of the second Avengers movie before we see the JLA on screen. The shit is wrong with you, Warner Bros/DC? How come you can't catch this fever for superheroes? Put the guys who've been in charge of your mostly excellent DCAU in charge of making a goddamned JLA movie already. Despite the mediocrity of the DCAU movies, they are still light years ahead of what Green Lantern is shaping up to be.

Date: 2011-05-05 07:55 pm (UTC)I'm all the more saddened by the look of GL because I tend to really like Martin Campbell as a director. Casino Royale and The Mask of Zorro are two of my favorite movies ever; when he's on point he's on point. I just don't know what to think of this, though. So much last minute damage control.
Meanwhile, I'm not gonna lie: I'm totally stoked to see Thor tomorrow. :D
Who's excited about Thor? THIS GUY.
Date: 2011-05-05 09:50 pm (UTC)I maintain that the greatest disappointment, however bad Green Lantern ends up being, is that they miscast both the actor and the character that should be at the center of the GL movie. I think Ryan Reynolds would have made a fantastic Flash, and I think John Stewart should have been the Lantern in the movie. It's literally the easiest way to get one goddamned person of color into our now expansive movie pantheon of superheroes. Additionally, I love John. Hollywood was prepared to take a gamble on Green Lantern--from their perspective, it's an untried property and they don't want extra risks, hence getting a white guy who's famous to star in it. I say, if you're taking the risk, fucking GO FOR IT. Hal Jordan. Bored now. (Note: I'm totally biased by the DCAU, so I'm prepared to eat my words if Jordan is, like, somehow amazing.)
I am mad about Thor coming out, though. It helps that I'll be post-exam, and riding high with the thrill of being done for the semester, but I'm looking forward to this. I still don't know if I'm looking forward to it for the right reasons--I was expecting high camp crap and early reviews are skewing to the pleasantly surprising quality action movie--but I'm looking forward to it.
Then I get to look forward to seeing Priest the week after, for many of the same reasons (expectations of epic fail that are more likely to be met). God, I love summer.
