Okay, no it isn't, but it DOES star Lassie from Psych, which makes it pretty damned awesome:

There's a discussion with the director about why he made it here. It reminds me a little of that rather gritty Mortal Kombat mini-movie that has actually been optioned to turn into a full-fledged series. And if you can make a gritty reboot of Mortal Kombat into a show, surely we can give this heart-breakingly awesome treatment of Voltron a shot, right? RIGHT?

That actor will always be fake Jesus from Xena to me.

Man, am I glad I know him from Psych instead. He plays such an awesome straight man/comic foil to the main guy. I think I like him better than the rest of the cast even though he plays the guy you're not supposed to like and is generally unpleasant. It's kind of like liking Casey from Chuck: he's so grumpy it's adorable!

I actually liked him on Xena. He's in the shitty scenes, it's true, and his is a shitty part. But he's so naturally charismatic that somehow he pulled it off.

(I've never been able to watch Psych. The tone is just...wrong for me.)

SWEEEET!!! I could see Lassie as "old" Lance.

It reminds me a little of that rather gritty Mortal Kombat mini-movie that has actually been optioned to turn into a full-fledged series.

I think you mean the mini-movie that got turned into a Youtube series that got their director a shot at making a brand NEW MOVIE!!

Was it a movie? Ah, my mistake. I was impressed with the short he did--I only saw the first one--but didn't otherwise pay enough attention to know which it was. Still, despite my general disinterest in the MK series, I would give money to his vision of it. Hollywood, take note.

I never really cared for them myself. Funnily enough, I kind of dug the stories behind the game, but I just never liked any of the *actual* games.

Which probably explains why I liked the first movie, despite it's "less money than Power Rangers with half the acting" vibe.

I spent a lot of money buying Mortal Kombat albums looking for the music in one of their ads. Ah, music buying before the internet. (I never played the games--a) wrong platform, we were SNES, and b) no WAY my mother would have let that in the house. We were a Streetfighter 2 household.)

CAN'T STOP THE GEEKERY

Red outfit, Black Lion (blah blah do ANY of the colors match blah blah).

Otherwise, pretty awesome. I'd watch a series with this as the cold open, followed by a time-skip and a desperate search by the last remnants of the Galactic Alliance for the now surely self-repaired and self-rebased in appropriate biomes Lions.

You may need to adjust your monitor, the lion is definitely red, just scorched. The uniform color is wrong, though.

YAY YOU LIKE IT AS MUCH AS I DO! I have this inordinate love of Voltron because it was something my siblings loved and got all nostalgic about when it was playing in reruns when I was a kid. I love my siblings, so it was fun to share something they loved with them.

And I would totally watch this series you propose. In all seriousness, I actually totally get what the director says in the interview about making it into a more realistic show, a la BSG. I want it!
