Well, as most of you know or saw, I got my hair cut. Thanks to everyone who was kind enough to drop me a note on LJ saying they like it. I'm still getting used to it, but your enthusiasm feeds mine. Hitchhiker's was lots of fun. I liked it tons, though I would have preferred more of the TV series-style dry, British delivery than I got. Things I loved: Slartibartfast, Marvin (I want a toy Marvin! He's so adorable!), Arthur, and Zaphod. I will build a shrine to Sam Rockwell as Zaphod--he was fantastic. I think that's the one thing that was oodles better than any adaptation of Hitchhiker's I've ever seen/heard. The Zaphod of old struck me as a not-cool guy being presented as cool without ever coming close. Sam Rockwell was actually cool and funny and had a pretty good sense of style, all things considered, and the swagger that previous Zaphods have been lacking (plus, his quasi-Dubya impression was hilarious). Things I wasn't so fond of: Ford (never really liked Ford, to be honest, his character's too hard to pin down), the love angle with Trillian (another nothing-much character), and the weird woman in love with Zaphod (uh? wha?). As for minor changes to the story, I'm not pressed; the spirit was there, the So Long and Thanks for All the Fish song was fantastic and horribly catchy, and the necessity of a towel was delightfully underplayed--it's there to impress the fans and befuddle and amuse the neophytes.

I pulled my typical 'sleep in until I can't sleeps no more' routine until about one am when Carrie, Eugene, and Carrie's mother buzzed to be let in...WITH KITTIES! We're sitting for Carrie's mom's cats, Sampson and Delilah, nicknamed Sam and Lilah by Carrie's mom. With Lisa and Carrie disappearing for the evening, I got to be alone and rechristen them Samwise and Lilah-belle. They're still very skittish and shy, Sam especially, but they love my room as it's the only bedroom open to them for exploration (Lisa and Eugene being allergic). Yay for playing with kitties! Only Sam had a tendency to sleep in our tub after hiding behind our toilet so he was filthy and wet and I slept out on the couch to encourage him not to sleep on my bed. Other Saturday items of note: I introduced Andy and Eugene to the wonders of Domino's cheeseburger pizza and ate a full medium's worth on my own. Excellent!

The CU Wind Ensemble's second annual senior choice concert was really nice. Toby picked a great piece, John William's work from Catch Me If You Can and there were a few others I recognized from previous concerts. I walked to and from the performance, which was a good burn off of calories and rewarded myself with a donut, some diet pepsi, and Diao Chan's musou mode.

Today was also room cleaning day. I finally unpacked my suitcase from when I took clothes home to wash, generally tidying up the place by making the most of under-the-bed space. I'll have to go to the container store or Wal Mart or something for some proper storage units, but for the time being, things are more organized than they've been in a while. I've also begun the tedious process of reencoding a lot of my mp3s from CDs. I originally ripped them at 320 but am going back using iTunes to make them 128 for the CDs that I owned. This saves hard drive space, iPod space, and allows me to have more songs for the space I do use. Since I'm not the world's best appreciator of 'quality' (other than not-skipping or otherwise fouling up), 128 is fine for me. I hope to get all my CDs done some time in the near future.

I listened to the new NIN cd start to finish. At first, I refused to believe it was anything other than brilliant, but time has mellowed me. I admit to liking one or two selections a lot but otherwise not being much attached to the album. This is heartbreaking. I love NIN, I love everything they do, even the shitty stuff I don't listen to (most of their first album, the live stuff). This felt like, I dunno, a commercial, typical album. It started with a good, catchy song, sung nicely and perfectly, which is not what I've come to expect of NIN album, so it felt like a pop-ish album instead--start with the hit single, throw the rest of the crap in, broken up with the future singles. A lot of it was background noise, and I even caught myself thinking "Boy, this song's just a lot of pointless screaming, isn't it?" about one song, which is, I'm sure, what quite a few people think about NIN in general.

New Family Guy! It's like it never left TV! It was brilliant, loved it loved it loved it. American Dad, not so much. That one's just never going to make it, methinks. It's too tame and where it tries to be controversial like Family Guy, it treads familiar 'controversies' like male-female power struggles, liberal children of conservative parents, blah blah blah. But Family Guy is still sooooo on. Lisa and Carrie tried to mush with the kitties a lot and Sam, the fatter one, kept getting caught and loved and dashing off again. I've kicked them out for just tonight--I really will not sleep if there are kitties to be played with--but I'll let them back in for the day while I'm out. They need some space to run around in.

Anything I've missed? No? Dunno? Wha' happen?

Hey...Hey! HEY! Stop it. Stop it.

And Hitchhiker's Guide was of course good, although I have to say I absolutely hated the television show. And I like Trillian. But that's me...

Maybe this will do for now:

They also seem to have some kind of interactive Marvin-thingey on the website.

Can iPods play ogg format? In my sleeplessness-addled state I seem to remember that taking less space for a better bitrate. I ripped a lot of cds at around 200something in ogg format and most tracks were under 5 mb.
