Okay, enough RAR-RAR-RAR-ing. Onto the stupid stuff I'm doing that nobody cares about either!

My father and I are still waiting on word that power has been restored. I slept better on the couch for being more tired last night and for having my sleep mask, but I still did not sleep well. And I'm nobody's friend when I've not had sleep and am awake against my will in the morning. It's almost over. Almost. )

More new developments:
-I have my vacuum cleaner! It's powerful, tiny, light, versatile, and loud as the roar of a car engine. I love it. It saves me time over sweeping and works better because the tufts of cat hair don't go wafting away on the breeze from sweeping! As soon as the guest cats are gone, I'll make a real go of cleaning my kitties' room proper with it. I'm ridiculously excited about that, not going to lie.

-I'm clearing out my e-mail at work because if I don't take a job at Columbia, I'll lose the account. For most people "cleaning out" means deleting. I've done some of that. But I'm mostly just forwarding everything--and I do mean everything--to my gmail account. I will probably never use it. But as [livejournal.com profile] feiran pointed out, I've had this account for ten years. Over the time I've had it, I forwarded most of the undergrad e-mails along, but there are still nearly five years of work e-mails, too. I can't bear to part with them because that's my life, you know? It's also potentially useful in the future. I wouldn't want to lose contact there. I'm also busy at rearranging registrations with places online that have used that account. As I go through e-mails, I keep discovering new ones to redirect. From 1000+ e-mails in the inbox yesterday, I'm down to 200+. Go Team Trinity!

-Someone's doing a Bebop rewatch on Tor.com!!! I gotta gobye...

Animated commercial for The Beatles: Rock Band.

Aside from just being beautiful, it's a trailer that could be an anime. And I would totally watch a Beatles anime. At this point, we are far enough removed from the debut of The Beatles that they are practically legendary. They could be their own animated cartoon and it wouldn't change our perception of them.

If they're archetypes instead of people, can't we just reboot them the way we have, well, all of our cultural icons? I want my Beatles anime, damn it.

Voltron into turnaround! Could it be the epic case of MASSIVE FAIL finally showing through?

I loves me some Voltron, don't get me wrong. But the minorest of minor details--the proposed plot--has me just a little off-put by the idea of a movie adaptation:

Marks' take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders.

FUCK YOU, VOLTRON DOES NOT LIVE ON PLANET EARTH. GALAXY GARRISON IS ON EARTH. VOLTRON IS ON PLANET ARUS. FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU.

Sorry. That got a little vehement. Might have something to do with the last bit of anime-to-film news I had--you know, that completely horsehit idea of casting Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel in a live-action Cowboy Bebop movie. What? There weren't any bad actors under 40 available!? What's that Anakin kid doing these days? Either one--the little'un or the angsty one. They'd at least be closer to age-appropriate.

-They're making a CG Gatchaman movie? Or is that CG of a live movie? Why does this show keep getting redone? WHERE IS MY VOLTRON MOVIE ALREADY!?!

(oops, I grumbled. moving on...)

-LOOK! THERE ARE ACTUAL JAPANESE PEOPLE IN THE DBZ MOVIE!!! Well, um, one of them is? And I thought the animated characters looked vacant and insipid...

(stop grumbling, damn it!)

-Watchmen posters! They're a little too Star Wars-prequels-poster-airbrushed-and-soft-lighted for my taste. (And with Ozymandias, it's obvious that Bubastis hasn't quite been realized yet for the film, so the artist is just doing the best he/she can.) However! I declare the Jupiter girls posters, specifically Sally's, to be great. Sally's supposed to look like a hero pinup, and she does! Naughtily! Man, do I love her hair. Sure it's probably wind resistant with all the hairspray, but it looks more real in its gravity-defying curls than Laurie's bangs.

I like the use of the quotes from the associated material in The Watchmen, too. That's the sort of thing you can't always put in the movie itself, but that makes for great advertising mojo. Again, this is an incredibly DENSE source material and anything the filmmakers do to make it at least seem as though they understood the text is a step in the right direction. (Doc Manhattan being nekkid? WORKS.)

(no grumbling here! except the Rorschach poster kinda gives away his identity, but that's not something you would realize if you hadn't read it and no one who's scanning these as much as I am hasn't read the graphic novel. NO GRUMBLING.)
