Okay, so now I've seen it...
Jan. 29th, 2006 02:15 amElektra wasn't unwatchably bad. It had one good action sequence, a couple of neat special effects/characters, and that was about it. It was joyless-ly bad. I mean, not a single-joke-to-be-found, unhappy-all-the-time anger, angst, and moroseness. Much as I am dubious of that movie's representation of just about anyone, I actually miss the Elektra from Daredevil who actually smiled--shocker! I stand by what I said this past week--Fantastic Four was better, if only because it made me genuinely amused and wasn't mad in love with itself and its own melodrama.
Oh, and, if not for the eleventh hour romance, the last bit of Horatio Hornblower could have been my favorite. It had all the ingredients--the army/navy rivalry and respect; the French being, well, French; more cute Horatio and Kennedy bonding and such. But the French tart can go b**se herself.
