There are times when I get ridiculously simple joy out of my work. For instance, the smell of transfer buffer after it's been subjected to a current of 400mA for hours...it's intoxicating.

Then I go into the cold room and see what look to be brains in a tube. Scratch that, they're mouse fetuses in a tube! SICK!

Gross.

I don't get to whiff transfer buffer, but occasionally I'll get e-mails that include gems such as this:

"There are a lot of women amateur [astronomers]. They just don't often pose for pictures.

Guys do, and that's probably a guy thing, like with their cars."

Yay for simple worktime joys!

::giggles:: Boys and their phallic objects. Also a source of much amusement.

Yep. Don't get much more phallic than a long, hard, thick...telescope.

On an unrelated note: I've been taking my vitamins! Know of any blood drives that you'd be willing to take me to?

"Joy out of my work", huh? You sure you're not just high?

Ooh! No, but let's go sometime. I still am chaperone girl out the wazoo. Eat your wheaties! Or, if wheaties aren't easy to come by, try Total. Mmm, whole grain total ::drool::

That's an equal possibility. However, I have a better chance at getting the warm and fuzzy chemical buzzy from the fire-proof cabinet. Inside it are xylenes, God's gift to man kind when it comes to things that will kill you so dead and yet smell so goooood.

(PS: Did you get stuff from Carrie? I put them in her bag, so she's no excuse for not delivering them!)

Nope, nothing from Carrie. Nothing from Lisa either.

Yell at both of them. They ought to be spanked good and hard.

Hey, I spent my lunch hour waiting for a conference that never occurred. I'd have loved to be delivering DVDs. She'll get 'em tomorrow. :-)

400mA -- at what potential?

My favorite lab worktime joy was pushing the cart full of hot glassware back from the autoclave room. It would leave a trail of warmth for me to walk through behind it, and the building was cold in the winter--bliss!

OH! And now I want the mint hot chocolate the deli nearby used to make...

Don't you mean "mouse unborn children in a tube"?

*ducks*

You know, I haven't really looked. I set the parameters as constant for either amperes or volts and walk away, and whichever I don't set fluctuates. Strange device.

I love the autoclave. It's so happy.
