In commenting to [livejournal.com profile] feiran about my last LJ post via Google Talk:

me: God, I make one post about cooking, and suddenly I have a billion reviews, all by guy friends. What's up with us knowing so many guys who cook and so few girls who do?
[livejournal.com profile] feiran: It's unnatural. They should instead be making babies.
me: LOL
[livejournal.com profile] feiran: Silly upstart men.

It's not that you know few girls who know how to cook, it's just that most of us are a)vegetarians and/or b)don't claim exclusive copyright to recipes and/or c)could care the crap less if you use bouillion or boil a chicken bone in some water. Most of us don't have time for that last one because we're busy bringing home the bread for our layabout menfolk.

Make your own kind of music, Dayle. Don't let the haters keep you down.

This is quite true. You are a fabulous cook, my dear. In fact, before my turkey-cum-chicken tetrazzini affair, I was going to bother you for the recipe for that baked ziti that was so delisch.

And you're right about the vegetarian/not-anal-enough females. I like that pissing contests among the less-than-fairer sex still exist in such 'manly' pasttimes as cooking. ( / sarcasm)

I hate to say it, but that baked ziti is one of the easiest recipes out there. I'll throw it your way anytime, just say the word!

Well, if there's anything I've learned from watching ~1 episode of Bravo's Top Chef it's that men are chefs. Women can cook well enough to get by in a housewife's kitchen.

Seriously: they're all cooking the same ridiculous, tiny little lamb shanks, and yet with a few exceptions the men get praised for their innovativeness while the women get an "uh uh, girlfriend, you need to get back to home ec! SUH-NAP!"

"The haters"?!?

Anyway, I think it's because (a) the guys who commented are single, live alone, and are (generally) girlfriend-less, so they have to cook for themselves; and (b) they're the types who love to lecture other people (a common characteristic of the geek set).

For the record, I'm engaged to [livejournal.com profile] jethrien and live with her. She's almost as good a cook as I am, I just get much more practice because I get home on average two hours before she does.

And on that topic, I cook much more now than when I lived by myself--it's just not worth it to cook elaborate dishes only for yourself.

Ditto on the last point. I'll probably get more into cooking when someone else is there to eat my food.

LOL!!!

Well to be far you never seen me in dating mode so you could make that kind of comment. While in dating mode I once made peking duck...... by accident. The recipes I come up with for a significant other usually surpass anything I make in single mode.

Yes, I'm sure you're a culinary Cassanova. The point was you live alone, therefore you have to cook for yourself because no one else will do it for you.

There's always time for cooking ^_^ even if it's only 15 min. Even if there was someone else to cook for me, I still generally prefer to cook for myself (when my stress levels aren't at the breaking point that is).

On a slight tangent, given the number of cheep, yet good, places to eat in my neighborhood I really don't have to cook if I don't want to. Sushi typically goes for $1 a piece and $2.50 a roll; $16 buys you 3 meals worth of colombian food; you have your choice of real chinese and fast chinese, not to mention the chinese bakeries; that of course is ignoring the indian and assorted other food type places in the area. I really don't have to cook if that's not my choice, I just really like cooking ^_^ Always have ^_^

Ouch! A little harsh, don't you think?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be harsh (I don't have a girlfriend either), just stating facts.

That's why I only commented about political ranting. I make my bitch cook everything.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, yeah, right.

How often does [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] cook?

I'd better let her answer that so I don't get my balls stomped on.

a) re: "The haters?!?" take a joke and b) I know my favorite pasttime is cooking for the men in my life. In fact, I rarely cook now that I'm single. I'd better get another man soon or I might lose my culinary instincts! Or my reason to live at all! O NOES!
