Ugh, I must stop letting Netflix recommend things to me. Was Margaret Cho ever funny? I laughed harder over LOST last night than I did over all of Notorious C.H.O. Really, is she supposed to be shocking? All the gay/lesbian/general sex talk isn't going to score so much as a blush from me, so I cannot fathom why her overwhelmingly gay/lebsian audience were laughing so hard.

Much better laughs were had at "The Return of Chef" on South Park last night. I hope everyone caught it who is even remotely following what's going on with Isaac Hayes and his cult--er, religion. It was clear that Matt Stone and Trey Parker were exorcising some of their frustration, anger, and wit at their old associate's expense, yet there was a nice coda at the end that said, basically, "Hate the sin, love the sinner," so I think there's a chance--on their side at least--to reconcile if Hayes wants.

That is to say if the Scientologists let him... (I love conspiracy theories!)

Also, my boss has just received a 30" wide-screen, flat-panel HD Apple monitor that costs more than any computer I've ever bought (except possibly my first laptop, but that was only because the guy at my Dad's office went crazy on them), and that's with a huge discount.

Yeah. I want that thing out of the box and having my babies, too.

A few months ago I attended a filming of an HBO Robert Klein special. I was startled when a voice over the speakers came on, before the show even started, and instructed us through several rounds of pre-taped laughter and response. There was "Laugh for about 5 seconds, then taper off," "laugh and end with applause," "groan/laugh like you just heard something slightly offensive," etc. It's quite possible that Cho's audience didn't crack a smile during the actual taping, but put on a great show in the pre-taping laugh recording sessions in hopes of attaining that holiest of grails: being on television.

This is quite possible. I didn't scan the DVD much for crowd reaction shots (I was stitching), so I might have missed it.

Thing was they were laughing all the damned time. Le sigh. Also, le boring.

I am 99% certain that Hayes was asked/told/ordered/blackmailed to quit by the Church of Scientology. There's NO WAY he doesn't have a sense of humor about his own "religion" after mocking so much else.

I don't doubt that you're right. It's funny that both times Scientology brainwashing has come up as a conspiracy theory, I've found the articles on Fox News. Really, I think the conservatives have this right. They're the ones who pointed out that Katie Holmes kinda disappeared for a month then showed up as Cruise's woman, with new friends and handlers, all of whom are coincidentally Scientologist mucky-mucks.

And then Fox News is saying Hayes had a stroke or something that wouldn't have let him make the statement really when he did (though Comedy Central says that's news to them, so take it with a grain of salt).

Even if it's not overt, I'm sure the Scientologists were at work. Mind-fuckers.

I don't think distrust of Scientology is a left-right issue. Sure, Hollywood is liberal and Hollywood loves Scientology, but it doesn't make the latter a liberal cause celebré. Just about everyone agrees, L. Ron was a fraud and Tom Cruise is a nut.
