Oh my. Oh-oh my! They are making a film version of Without Remorse.

But, but, but...I wanted Liev Schrieber to play John Clark!!! He's my absolute favorite Clancy character ever ever ever, and, much as The Sum of All Fears was a lame-ass movie (thank you fucking Ben Affleck), Liev Schreiber played John Clark so perfectly, it still gives me goosebumps. Joaquin Phoenix isn't a bad actor, but still. Le sigh. Missed opportunities.

And isn't it interesting that Rainbow Six looks like it will be made first? I guess that makes sense as Rainbow Six deals with terrorism (even better for the NRA-happy Republican government: they're evil eco-terrorists, so let's stick it to the greenies!) whereas Without Remorse, done poorly, could end up being just another A Man Apart-style tale of a revenging tough-guy type, and that's kind of a hard sell with the jaded movie-going public these days.

Ooh, but Rainbow Six is going to be directed by Zack Snyder, who is responsible for one of my favorite movies in recent history, the revamp of Dawn of the Dead. Oh, oh, oh! Who is also going to direct Watchmen!!!!! Now I know who to watch like a hawk lest he ruin one of my favorite characters of all time (Rorscach, in case anyone wants to spar about favorites).

Movie news! I love it!

I didn't read it until last year either. My dad (who is awesome) got it for me for Christmakwanzhanudan. I read it on our subsequent 14 hour car trip (and finished it!)

Rorschach is a nutjob (more like V nutjob than Batman crazy), but a GREAT character. I think the characters are really what makes Watchmen. Every one of them has depth and personality, which a lot of comic book characters lack.

Something's gonna have to be cut for a movie version. But I think it'll lose some of its meaning if they cut too much of the narrative. Hopefully, someone with a good eye for detail will do the cutting.

Somehow, I completely missed that Vendetta and Watchmen were written by the same guy. Funny how I lent Watchmen to a friend after Vendetta reminded me of it.

Yeah the characters make the thing, that's the way of it. I find Doc Manhattan a tad irritating but he's a fascinating creature, so that's cool.

I'm hoping they don't make a total bad guy out of Mrmphmmm because that would reduce his/her sociopathic crusade to just wah wah wah evilness. I think they could get rid of the Night Owl Sr. plotline, but otherwise, I'm not sure what they could do to streamline it.

Yeah, Alan Moore. He's talented, sure, but he's also a tempermental genius-type, so I have a feeling in the right hands his stuff will be dynamite without the condescending preachy stuff. Then again, it could become another LXG and then I'd die a thousand deaths before it was over.
