Mmm, missed my appointment to play XBOX this morning, but was justifiably sick enough to cancel. Am thinking my rearranged time tomorrow will be likewise missed. However, got up in time to catch the Thursday afternoon anime screening. Erm, interesting, some anime about a girl with wings and halo from a compound full of like-wise angelic-looking types. She was trying to get a job in the 'town' and there was some focus on crows because they could leave said town/compound. Clues? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Then they had a library fest, which seemed to be people borrowing fansubs for the most part--not quite as on the up-and-up as CU Anime, but there were easily forty-fifty people there for the screening--it was even held in a lecture room. Nice, but not sure if I'll attend again, at least, not until I know some people there or they show something I'd be more keen on. Maybe I can drag girl who likes anime from my film tute to it. Also, lots of asians--to be expected, I assume, but yeah, wow, definitely was a member of a single-digit non-asian minority.

The real bonus was KARATE. I was nervous as hell, but a really really nice blue belt, Sharon, helped me, even tho it took her even a thousand times, to tie my belt (it was hard because it was so stiff as it was brand new). I was rubbish at the new stuff and even some of the old stuff. Darrell, a brown belt, was asked to work with me on the side, seeing as I was the only entry-level white belt there (the only other white belt had that weird black strip with characters that means he's about to test for his next color). I felt bad that Darrell had to take time out to like guide me through the easy easy stuff that I still managed to mess up, but he was great, told me just to fake my way through a repetition, get to the right end point then just try again.

In fact, everyone in karate I feel like I'm slowing down, but they are all wonderful nice people and just patient as hell. I learned, sorta, a new defence, which I tried out against Justine, a green belt who helped me spar last time, and Tracy, and Sharon in the end. They were all so sweet and encouraging. Then and then, Alex, another blue belt, invited me along to girls night out tomorrow night! I have to e-mail her about it because I'll probably be out with my family through the dinner part, but she said if I gave her the number to my cell, one of the girls would text message me, let me know where they went from there. It was so incredibly nice, I wanted to cry. That's more than like the Americans around here have done. Michelle and Justin come in to get Spurrs/Alicyn, say hi and bye. If I saw a friend's roomie just sitting around, I would invite them along--never mind that I had to go to karate about ten minutes after they walked out, but still. Karate people much cooler.

Am so pleased at their sweetness, am considering getting up EARLY ON A SATURDAY (I know, end of the world, right?) to go to another general class. Unless the family calls for Phillip Island. Oops, it's a but inconvenient to have them here when I'm just getting to know people. But I'll still make sure not to let communiques with karate folks go unheeded, and will make quite sure they know I'm really really interested in girls night outting it! Bonus: I came home and practiced more! I think I am insane, but I'm less sore than on Monday. Seriously considering switching around tutorials on Tuesday so I can be at karate on Tuesdays for beginners' level class--or missing film screenings on Wednesday mornings for it--I've seen most of the films anyway!

I'm nuttier than fruitcake about karate. Just wait till it gets harder and people start actually expecting me to get stuff (man, being a newbie has the advantage that at least just trying counts--I might have to start like actually remembering and getting stuff right soon). Well, I went out afterwards with Amy, David, Andreas to E: Fifty-Five, which was chill. Met Sasha, David's friend, and Damien, Andreas' friend (am noticing disturbing trend of not bringing own friends to these meetings). Good news is Sasha invited us to rock-thing at the bar she works at with free entry/beer at 10 pm next wednesday--gives me something to do :)

Speaking of things to do, am realizing that next week is a busy one: Tuesday is Quiz Nite, Wednesday is Sasha's bar, Thursday is the M.U.S.E.X. Yarra River cruise, sheesh, even Unilodge is getting in on the action, having a karaoke contest here starting 7:30 (which has free food, which will be my reason for dropping in prior to Sasha's night, if I have time). This is good as Amy says she'll be busy next week working on "Bugsy Malone" a musical her college is putting on. Man, wish I were in the colleges! I asked for one, damn it!

Oh, then there's MUDFEST. Sheesh. Good thing I don't have any pressing business, like school or anything. Yeah, whew.

MUAHAHAHAHA, the siren call of karate is victorious over Dayle! Just wait until they start throwing you! And then see what happens when you show up here and I bring you to jujitsu and *I* start throwing you! You're going down, chickpea.

Sounds like you're having a kickass time; keep up the good work. :-)

Oh, *by* the way. You'd never have expected it, but I'm missing your incessant loud music. I was searching my hard drive for some good angry songs the other day, and there was nothing of use! You've failed in your mission to transfer the contents of your music folders to me over the last year. :-P

But it's very odd...I'm listening to The Perfect Drug, *voluntarily*. Mercifully, I still never need to hear Cherry Lips again in my life, but dude, you're an invasive, parasitic musical bastard. :-)

speaking as someone who has spent many an hour working with slow new white belts, never feel bad about "slowing them down". it really helps us arrogant upper level types to have to think about things from a basic level and try to teach them. teaching is harder than actually doing whatever it is so it makes the upper level belt people learn it better too.

What does "I wish I were in the colleges" mean? Doesn't Amy go to your college?
