My parents were super-tolerant of me this weekend, meaning they came and picked me up in addition to dropping me off, which is a super luxury when you live as far uptown as I do (for me--it's actually easier for them to drop me off now than it was before). To make this even more wonderful, they gave me the old desk from the front hall for [livejournal.com profile] feiran and helped (aka did it for me) me get it into the car. I got a really nice rolling chair for my desk ([livejournal.com profile] feiran will take my desk chair for the other desk). I got to go spend the last of my Christmas Best Buy monies, and whatever else was extra (about $40-50), my dad picked up (to be fair, he was spending $90 himself). I got Animaniacs Vol 2 (see, [livejournal.com profile] umeyard, it's not that hard!) and X2 (didn't have that one yet), along with some Disney movies and a DVD rack.

The rack isn't all that great, but it'll last for while we have this place (I hope). Mostly, it was a good way to recharge for this week, when my boss gets back and I have to cram things in before I leave again on Thursday for the Cheerleading Nationals in Disney World. I did laundry, bought the kitties enough food to last them until fall, and let Devin drive me around (I LIVE ON THE WILD SIDE). Of course, I also got loaded down with food to take back, and a really nice bottle of French dessert wine. This is the first wine I've ever had that never tastes like it has alcohol in it. You drink it and you feel only the warm sensation on the back of your throat to know you've ingested any liquor. It's fabulous. I ate some green grapes while I had the wine and there was a very little difference between the savory taste of the two. Mmmm.

Ahhhh, relaxed. Of course, I got home and [livejournal.com profile] feiran and I cleaned and arranged the office to within an inch of its and our and the kitties' lives, which is nice but tiring, so I hope to fall asleep reeeeeeally quick tonight especially since I was up to 5 am watching Terminator 2 (I dunno how some of you people fall asleep to movies; I kept thinking I would, I was plenty tired, but it didn't happen; also? T2 has held up exceptionally well for a movie fifteen years old in terms of special effects and breaking my heart). I have about thirteen new books to try and read, and I will, since I'll be a long time waiting on my plane on Thursday, stupid group check-in policy... ::grumbles::

Cheerleading nationals? Is this a sisterly thing?

Indeed. My youngest sister is a cheerleader and their team is quite good, so they're going to nationals. Of course, they're not going to win, but that's only because there are places in this country where there is nothing to do but excel at random-ass athletics. The point is to go and get better and have fun. How much "fun" it will be for my sister depends on whether her coach stops being a bitch and insisting that Devin's group has "an attitude" and isn't trying hard enough.

::slaps forehead::

It's just not something I even think about whenever I'm there. Maybe next time?

Yeah :)

I was talking about it with my friend at length, and super-meta-y, and it was just nice to rewatch and make sure I wasn't talking from the point of view of the more immature me that had seen it last. Nope, it's still that meta-worthy!

Just because I'm dumb and mostly out of the loop, could you explain to me exactly what meta means? I'm not entirely sure I know. :)

I think that this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta) sums it up better than I can. Abstract concepts are hard to define even when they're easy slip into.

I think T1 gets kind of shafted. I might like T1 more because I think it's equally good, but more underrated.

T1 is great. I like them both for different reasons. Really, after seeing T1 again a few years ago, I was really struck by how IDENTICAL the two movies were. It's almost Evil Dead/Evil Dead 2-worthy. Right down to the chase scene and the factory bits at the end.

I dunno that T1 gets shafted so much as forgotten because T2 was basically T1 upgraded, visually, and those visuals are still damned impressive.

Evil Dead II is way more identical in its sequelness than Terminator 2. I mean, for one thing there's no Robert Patrick. That's like 50% of the movie! Plus Evil Dead II has far less of a plot (or less details, anyway), so it's really just more (but better) cabin-in-the-woods mayhem.

That's really what I see T2 as being. I swear, the pacing is exactly the same, and some minor things happen that are different, but otherwise, almost the same movie.

Also, is that comment about Robert Patrick a good or bad one? I can't tell if people like him or not ever.
