The damage
Jun. 20th, 2007 12:56 pmThis DVD-buying season of discounts has taken a real bite out of the old wallet. And this is not good right before summer when I needs to be going out to the movies for stuff. Is that irony? That my love of movies and purchases of the same might curtail my ability to go out and enjoy them more? I think that's irony, but I can't ever tell. I blame Alanis.
Last night, I recounted with
darkling1 and
feiran how many DVDs I'd bought. Counting seasons of TV as one movie's worth, I think I came up with nineteen. In the past month, I have bought nineteen DVDs/sets. Man, am I reallyglad that
moonlightalice talked me out of buying Prison Break because then it would be twenty and that seems just that more gratuitous.
Oh. Wait. Shit. I bought DVDs upstate over Memorial Day weekend in addition to the Deep Discount sale and the Best Buy one. Fuck it all. Okay, then, what's the actual total?
-The Simpsons: I bought seasons 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Otherwise known as Purchases 1-7.
-Family Guy: I bought all four volumes of it--Purchases 8-11.
-Battlestar Galactica: Do I get to count it as one if I bought season 2.0 and season 2.5 in a bundle? Not even if they were wrapped together? Oh, all right: Purchases 12 and 13
(Oh God, I'm already at thirteen!?)
-The Alien Quadrilogy: I feel I should only count this as 2.5 movies because one sucks and another is only okay. But quantity, not quality (as evidenced by
darkling1's disgust for one of my other choices from Deep Discount) is my scale: Purchases 14-17.
-Arsenic and Old Lace, but that only counts as one even though I bought two copies (one is for my parents). Purchase 18.
-The last third of season two Farscape. Individually bundled, so it counts as Purchase 19.
-Almost the rest of Pixar's catalogue that I don't already own: Toy Story, Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, and Monsters Inc.. I dunno what
darkling1 has against A Bug's Life, but I thought it was way cute and the "outtakes" are the best of any Pixar movie. Aside from Pixar movies not yet on DVD (Ratatouille), that makes only Cars one I don't own (and I don't care to. It's a lesser film.) Makes that Purchases 20-23.
-Fantastic Four was bought to get the free ticket to the sequel (and by "free" I mean only $2.50 in NYC instead of $11). That brings the total to 24 purchases.
Ouch. Twenty-four DVDs. And that number is low-balled by not counting the three-four-five dvds/sets I bought as gifts and by counting TV shows as only onepurchase per season. Ouch ouch ouch. My wallet hurts. Clearly, the solution is to go drinking tonight. And, wouldn't you know it? That's exactly what I'm going to do! Woo!
