I woke up today figuring that, when I did get around to browsing LJ, the results of the primaries yesterday would be all over the place. I guess not. I went to the Times to check, and they've got something about tornadoes on the front page? What the hell is going on?

At least, from what I remember, the biggest differences between the two parties were mostly about economics and social programs...

They still are. Dems believe the latter should exist; Repubs don't. On the former, the two parties are alike only in that they don't know how to work it.

I mostly meant that I don't remember quite the rabidity about teh gheys or OMG birth control kills. These are the things that make me think Republicans are crazy. Especially given that they preach "small government," but they want to be in everyone's bedroom? Hypocrites much?

Eh, when it boils down to it, I haven't ever really liked party politics at all. :(

Have you read What's the Matter with Kansas?. Addresses the "since when has hating people been cool?" aspect of the conservative bent of late. Basically, there are people who are poor and never getting rich who you can get to vote for you on outrage alone based on social issues that won't really ever change. Then, when they don't change, the people still vote for the anti because he promises he will, eventually, change them. Promise much, deliver little, let the poor continue to suffer and further drive their rage to only the one outlet: gay-bashing, abortion-hating, Christ-preaching conservatism.

No, I've never heard of that, much less read it.

And you know, I'm totally cool with people being against homosexuality, or abortions, and loving to preach about the "love" of Jesus Christ and all that crap, as long as they keep it out of politics. It's one thing to have personal beliefs and another to go around killing people because they're different in some way.
