I can't believe how good The Watchmen is. I mean, I knew that when I read it the first time. But it's amazing how well it holds up and how all the extras at the end of the individual chapters are so interesting in their own right. I'm even MORE nervous about the upcoming film adaptation upon the reread given how dense the graphic novel is. There are plenty of things they can simplify (leaving out the older generation of heroes, for example), but aiyah. There is too much to do justice to it all.
However, if this new picture is any indication, it's still gonna look f'ing pretty. The look they've got. That's something at least (and more than Daredevil ever could boast).
Speaking of looks, take a peep at Harvey Dent on his bad day (not spoilery unless you really have no idea what they'd possibly do with his character in the upcoming The Dark Knight). Can't say I love the hair, though it does make a certain kind of sense that other versions have not. Scariest bit of all is that the make-up-free side is more scary than the other.
Last but not least (oh, there'll be more this Thursday, fer sure), three generations of the suit. GLEE.

Date: 2008-02-26 09:39 pm (UTC)I don't mind the changes to the movie, as I said, but you have to watch how much of a purist you insist on being with some translations. The film medium swallows certain endings and regurgitates others. Ambiguity is just not as well served in film. This is not to say it can't be, just to say that it's very hard and usually defeated by commentary. Look at the folk who complained over the ending of No Country for Old Men--that had an ambiguous sort of ending and it left most people dissatisfied.

Date: 2008-02-27 01:01 am (UTC)I just don't have a whole lot of faith in the people in charge of making Watchmen. On the bright-side though, the stills that I have seen so far look pretty damn good. (Though the guy they've got playing Rorschach looks a lot more like Spider Jerusalem than Rorschach.)
