trinityvixen: (thinking Mario)

Some things I never noticed about Indiana Jones until yesterday's marathon:

-From Raiders: Katanga, the ship captain who is hired to ferry Indy and Marion away from Cairo, is actually a good guy. He seems to give Marion up to the Nazis, which is what I remembered, but he did try before his ship was boarded to hide them both. I thought he and his crew were just waving to Indy because they got screwed when trying to deal with the Nazis and anything that fucked the Nazis was all good to them. But, no, he was on the level.

-From Temple of Doom: Whoa, the second one is a prequel! No, really! ToD takes place in 1935, Raiders is in 1936!

-From Last Crusade: Elsa might have intentionally selected the wrong grail to give to Donovan (the American Nazi). I never noticed how honestly distressed she was at the book burning in Berlin, and I pretty much ignored where she was at all sympathetic because, hello, sided with the Nazis! But as an adult I can appreciate how she was using them as a means to an end without liking them much. (Okay, doesn't excuse her, but it does differentiate that she is not actually a Nazi believer herself.) So when she, Indy, and Donovan get to the grail chamber, she seizes on Donovan's trust and hands him an obviously wrong grail. As he looks at it, she's seen in the background smiling evilly at him. I think she set him up by way of apology to Indy and his dad for all her betrayals. It did make her a more complex villain, and I enjoyed that.

There was an Indiana Jones marathon? Damn, if I'd known I probably would've come, because I like those movies marginally more than Star Wars and yet remember them about as well, which is not enough to see the new one. :/

yeah there was one on sci-fi. I went over to [livejournal.com profile] moonlightalice's place to watch with her. It was good, but those movies are really, really repetitive. I hope the new one is similar, but different, you know?

Ohh, it wasn't something you guys organized, though? I thought I'd somehow missed out on plannings again. Meh.

Not really organized, not really. It was more like we were going to watch the movies before seeing the next one, so why not do it together?

I posted in my LJ! No one responded! I was so disappointed. :( :(

Sigh, I need to make some kind of reading-filter that only has real-life friends on it and check that one at least weekly, because I have too many people friended and I honestly think lj kind of breaks at a certain point. It's not that people are getting pushed off the page - it's that I'll click on someone's actual journal and see a post that SHOULD be on my current friends page but isn't, for some reason.

Elsa--not a Nazi, yes, clearly using them for her own quest. I think she sets the guy up, but you're giving her too much credit. She doesn't do it for Indy; she does it so she can have the grail herself.

Oh, no, you're right, she does totally want the grail for herself. I don't forgive her for assisting the Nazis. (Ends do not justify the means.) Setting up Donovan to die is one way of making sure she gets the grail, but given how honestly distressed she was by Dr. Jones Sr. being shot and her proposing to share the glory of finding the grail with Indy, I'd say she was doing it for them, too.

When the films came out on VHS, the spines had chapters. I think the movies were, in order of release, Chapter 23, Chapter 22, and Chapter 24. Young Indy composed some of the other chapters.

Ugh, that is just Lucas messing around with things. I prefer not to think about what he thinks should come first, middle, or last after the Star Wars prequels.

It's not Lucas messing about with anything -- Spielberg and he did a prequel deliberately, and the Last Crusade after. I'm honestly quite fond of the idea of (not so much the execution of) a sprawling Indiana Jones mythology/canon. I like much of Young Indiana Jones, and hear good things about the games.

I will remain wary until proven otherwise. Between them, Lucas and Spielberg have enough issues to sink what should be a fun serial. I'm just keeping fingers crossed for the new one and then I can not sweat the small things.

Well, for the record, the numbers were merely on the spines of the tape sleeves, and they not only did not appear in the movie anywhere but they haven't appeared anywhere else aside from that pressing of tapes either.

Didja check your cable? Because it was on Sci-Fi.

I don't HAVE cable, so no.

Oh, sorry. I keep forgetting who does and does not have. After [livejournal.com profile] moonlightalice and [livejournal.com profile] wellgull got cable, I was pretty sure there were no more holdouts. (Because they're the last ones I would have expected to get it :P)

Cable is expensive, and So Not Worth It. As much as I miss Food Network and stuff, I'll probably not get cable again anytime soon.

I commented that I didn't think I could make it, in the hopes that it would continue planning discussions. I never saw anything DEFINITE.

I think you make your own :)

I've got plans to see with some friends, other friends are going with yet a third group of friends...it's anarchy, I tell you.

Oh well. I was hoping to see it with sympathetic friends, but alas.

There's no one outing, alas. I'm seeing it with the "other" crowd, so why don't you grab the CUSFS crowd? Think Shelly was looking for plans, too.
