trinityvixen: (who's driving? OMG it's Sylar)

I found out a while ago who the mystery person being killed off on Heroes would be, but the internet at large has finally, and without spoiler tags, confirmed it all over the place. Just in case, I'll use the spoiler cut...

And the winner is: Nathan Petrelli.

Color me shocked. The entire internet is rolling its eyes at this point because 1) Nathan's already dead, so killing the dead guy isn't exactly a shocking twist, and 2) see #1.

No really, WTF? This is neither interesting nor all that unexpected. We all knew Nathan was on borrowed time so long as he wasn't really himself. Eventually, Sylar will out, and he did by like the second or third episode. So, yeah, wasn't really surprised that we won't see much of Nathan again.

Which? Fucking sucks, actually. Adrian Pasdar, when given anything to do, rocks the house with it. Rumor has it that he also found out that he was being written off the show by reading his scripts. That's really an awesome way to communicate with your actors. It's bullshit, and Pasdar is better than that. If you failed his character and you don't need him any more, have the decency to go, "We fucked up, sorry we can't keep you around."

Also, as I've mentioned in a whole mess of current reviews at Pink Raygun, I think Zachary Quinto is entirely subsisting on an all-scenery diet at this point. What does a guy have to do to get out of his contract over there? (Besides being not white, I mean?)

Haha I just recently started watching through Heroes with a friend. We're currently just a handful of episodes in, but I love it so far and I'm not going to read the spoilers. I keep running away when I see the commercials for whatever season is just starting to air. =)

I'm so tempted to return to season one and enjoy that sense of wonder I had when I was watching it. It started slow and just really took off as the season went on. Since then, however, they've just kept trying to re-invent the wheel without reinventing anything else useful. Plot lines have been repeated with slightly different players--but only very slightly.

And it's just shown a marked disinterest in the sort of nerdiness that it requires to sustain itself. They seemed to think if they threw together a superhero show, all the geeks would just fall in line and accept whatever they got gratefully. Obviously, this isn't the case--we geeks have a great wealth of decent filmed work to choose from now, and we don't have to just accept what is given to us. Of course, this contributes to the problem because as the show runners have tried to cater to geek tastes, they've forgotten how to tell a good story...

Enjoy season one. Then stop watching, in other words. Ask me at the end of the 09-10 television season whether or not volume five (season four) is worth it. Thus far? I'd say it's not terrible, which is high praise after the bullshit of volumes 2-4. I credit this to the appearance of Robert Knepper and Ray Park (yes, THAT Ray Park).

That's too bad. Speaking of superhero stuff, have you seen any of the Marvel and DC straight to DVD animated films? The Invincible Iron Man, Ultimate Avengers 1 & 2, Superman: Doomsday, Dr. Strange, The Hulk vs. Wolverine/The Hulk vs. Thor, Wonder Woman, etc. I'm happy to say they're all quite good or at least enjoyable. And it's great that they've had so much success because they can keep building onto the already impressive video library.

Ray Park? Awesome! (back to Heroes again) See, my problem is I'm a completionist -- once I start watching a show I enjoy, I want to see the entire thing, no matter how it might sag in the middle. Sigh.

I have seen only a few of the direct-to-video things. I saw the Green Lantern animated movie most recently. It was sort of predictable--it was a movie-length version of the Green Lantern episode of the Superman animated series--but it wasn't terrible. My roommate has not had good things to say about the other ones, and I've deferred to his superior knowledge on these things. As for the Marvel ones, I just haven't heard anything great about them, so they weren't on my radar. I'll check 'em out.

Welcome to my life. Here I am, nine years later, still watching Smallville. About the only series I ever stopped completely with and never went back to was post-first-movie The X-Files. It had become a different show, in my defense, but yeah, I finish everything, even things that hurt me. (Damn you, Battlestar!)

Huh. Your roommate's is the first really negative review I've heard of those films. Sure, some are better than others and some can be predictable like you said, but I find them to be well done in general and enjoy them in any case. My best friend is a big comic book fan is one of the biggest nitpickers in the world, and even he likes them. Still, to each their own and I have no way to tell if you'd like them or not. I will say my favorites are the Ultimate Avengers movies though (Thor is fantastic and hilarious and steals the show in the second one). Oh, and I assume you've watched Justice League Unlimited?

Haha I'm watching through Smallville with the same friend I'm watching through Heroes with. He's seen all of Smallville, but this is my first time and we're about halfway through the second season. He keeps telling me I'm on my own when it gets to Season 4 and keeps moaning about Krypto the Wonderdog. Haha I'm not looking forward to it, but I kind of am. And he's the worst person in the world to watch through this stuff with 'cause he can't help reminiscing out loud about the events in upcoming episodes and keeps saying things like "wait until season whatever when this happens!" like he needs to constantly sell me on it. Ugh, I hate spoilers.

I'd really like to watch though all of The X-files sometime. I saw the first few episodes when it premiered on TV, a few here and there after, and then a couple of the later episodes I caught on reruns before bed. That's it. And yeah, it really did become a different show.

Oh, and I assume you've watched Justice League Unlimited?

Oh the GUILT TRIPS I'm getting for not having gotten through that one yet. Basically, I told my roommate I loved Batman Beyond and he said that there's a sort of extra BB episode in JLU, and so as soon as I finish BB, it's off to watch that series next. But I'm prioritizing BB first. (Bat-fan, me.) It's on the list!

As for Smallville, your friend is right to abandon you through season four. I think I only saw half of it, but I didn't need to see all of it to roll with future seasons. There's a decent episode in there I need to see that I haven't, but otherwise? Won't touch it with a ten-foot pole. There have been some baaaaaaaaaaaad seasons of late, but NOTHING comes close to season four. You might even say it's a Smallville-watcher's kryptonite?

The X-Files was the only live-action show I watched until late high school when I picked up Buffy. It was sooo good. I remember being out of school early on the Friday the movie opened and going to see it with my mother that morning, that's how much we loved it. The mythology lost me along the way, though, and the post-movie stuff was just bunk for the most part, I don't feel bad about missing that. However, if you liked the monster-of-the-week stuff in that show, I think Supernatural is a worthy successor to The X-Files in that department. Yes, SPN is a little gay (and its fandom is TOTALLY NUTS, which is why I watch the show and stay out of fandom), but it's a decent story. Just gotta get past the mostly indifferent first season!

Haha Justice League is cool, but man, Justice League Unlimited is fantastic! Nathan Fillion even plays the voice of one of the minor characters.

I LOVE BATMAN BEYOND! I remember thinking how gay and "Xtreme" it looked like it was trying to be when I first saw the commercials for it. Given that, I avoided it until one day a friend was over watching Dragon Ball Z on the Cartoon Network (this is back in like '01). DBZ ended and we hung out, shooting the shit while BB was on. After a few minutes, the conversation died and we both came to the slow realization that BB didn't suck! Then, I caught it from the beginning in '02, still on Cartoon Network, and fell in love with it. It was so refreshing after the crap that was the last couple of Batman movies at the time, particularly Batman & Robin. I bought all three seasons of BB on DVD as soon as they were released. =)

Here's another one: The Spectacular Spider-man. My friend and I started watching this recent show and thought it was going to be too childish at first, but it turned out to have The. Most. Impressive. action sequences I've seen in a cartoon and the dialog ended up being alright and even funny at times, too. The show had been canned after two or three seasons, but, last I heard, this Disney deal might give it a second life and get it going again.

Hehe I heart SPN. I was first shown a few random episodes in Season 3, and now I'm slowly working through season one with some friends. It's your basic monster of the week stuff right now, but I still enjoy it and I know from the later episodes I saw that the story picks up.

I've seen all of Angel, but am only on Season 2 of Buffy, which I am thoroughly enjoying. God, so much to watch!

I hear you on the so much to watch front--I'm behind on EVERYTHING. If I didn't do Heroes reviews weekly, I'd be behind on that, too. As it is, I'm going one 2 weeks of SPN, at least 4 of current-season Smallville, I'm one and a half seasons behind on Burn Notice and Psych and The Venture Bros and Metalocalypse, and I keep meaning to start watching Angel and I'm only in season one of 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights, and AAAAAAHHH!!!

Haha! Sounds like the same kind of list I have.

Isn't Burn Notice excellent?! I'm caught up on that. I've seen through part of season 2 of Venture Bros. My cousin just recently informed me I need to watch Metalocalypse and another friend did the same with Psyche. I'd also like to see Fringe. How's 30 Rock? Also, have you seen any of Chuck?

Okay, this is getting breathless...and I'm typing!

1) Burn Notice is awesome. I love everybody on the show.
2) Venture Bros. is amazing, especially since it has continuity and still manages to be hilarious week to week.
3) Metalocalypse is just bizarre but fun.
4) Psych is silly and procedural, but I enjoy it.
5) Fringe ... haven't caught up on it!
6) 30 Rock gets better with each episode as they go into it more. Again, I really like most of the characters on the show, which helps.
7) I HEART CHUCK WITH MIGHTY HEARTING. It's seriously a wonderful show, where I love everybody in it and all the characters are their own people and it is clearly about nerds as written by a nerd versus the Heroes thing where they write about nerdy stuff as if they'd read it in books. (And not like DnD manuals! Like off poorly-edited Wiki pages!) It does poke fun at hte geeks, sure, but mostly? It's very loving.

=)

1)Word.
2)Really gotta get caught up on that.
3)That's actually the only thing I've heard about Metalocalypse. I'm sold.
4)Looking forward to seeing it sometime.
5)When you say "haven't caught up", does that mean you've seen some of it, but just aren't on the current episode or season or whatever?
6)Another one for my list.
7)Well said! Also, I rejoiced when Scott Bakula. I get a little frustrated with the with certain ridiculous situations that cause moronic drama between Chuck and Sarah, but I still love the show.

new...

8)And then there's Dexter, which I've only seen through season 2 of. Love it.

movies...

9)Finally saw Zombieland last week Tuesday. I had been looking forward to it ever since I saw the trailer in front of District 9 at the theater, and it actually exceeded my expectations. That never happens!

10)Speaking of zohttp://www.youtube.com/v/8Mo6C6up1Qo">this?
