Sorry to keep spamming you folks. I confess I'm bored at work. Tomorrow, I have a short day before I have to go upstate for the afternoon/evening, and it's just impossible to focus today as a result. I'm headed upstate because my parents are both unable to be there when their cable guy is coming to fix their line. During the recent snowstorm, something got fudged up and now they need to actually have physical work done to fix the line. I've also had my new laptop hard drive mailed to them so I can fiddle with that while the guy works.

I need only be there in the afternoon, so I'm debating going out to a movie in the evening. Looking at what's out now, I would probably see Shutter Island or The Crazies. I want to see Alice, despite the less-than-favorable reviews, but I'll hold off and take that one in as a matinee. I'm pretty sure that I'm the only one who wants to see either of the other two, so I'll go myself to those.

Has anyone seen either of the first two? Would you recommend one or the other? Taste is not an issue (obviously, since this is me we're talking about), nor is interest. I'm interested equally in either.

Tower defense = strategy-like game where you place and upgrade defensive structures to fight off waves of enemies, earning more money, which is used to buy more defensive structures. The genre took off on free web games, and has been improving since. Examples include Plants vs. Zombies, Gemcraft, and the South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Game!!.

This is of course a perfect genre for WWI, where idiot European generals (possibly related to Zapp Brannigan) thought the key to advancing was to send wave after wave of infantry into entrenched machine guns. Toy Soldiers improves on the genre by letting you step into towers and control them manually, and also letting you drive vehicles around the battlefield. There's also multiplayer, where you can send your own waves at the enemy's structures.

Sounds like the ending battles of Brutal Legend. That looked...boring. But I'm glad that you're so enthused. Have fun.

As far as TD games go, there's Desktop Tower Defense (there's a DS version, too)... simple, to the point, challenging and a lot of fun. Plants Vs. Zombies is the shit, too! That ruled my world for a month after PAx last year.
