Our kittens might just kill me with the cute. When I went in this morning to put ice cubes in their water dish (they get a kick out of playing with them, and it keeps the water cool, which, on this already beastly hot day, they'll need), they were all over me. I sat down, and Wally kept trying to jump up closer to my head. Whenever I pick him up to cuddle, I hold him up over the BCDs and nuzzle with him. I found it indescribeably adorable that he wants to be at my neck/face whenever he's climbing on me. Oscar, not to be left out, jumped right up on my legs, too. They were both purring inside of a second. This assuages some of my fears that they loved their other mommies better.

I am so going home at lunch to take another thousand pictures of them being cute beyond all measure. It's worth braving the beastly heat for. Honestly, at this point, [livejournal.com profile] arcane_the_sage isn't the only one tempted to hibernate until the worst of summer is over. Personally, I like warmer weather better than colder--I can go outside and swim and eat ice cream with impunity. However, it's been so hot the last couple of days (and today, and possibly tomorrow), that I can't even keep up with my coping mechanisms. The fan is only blowing hot air on me, the freezer can only make so much ice when we keep it open to cool our faces, showers only left my hair wet for half as long, and my stomach can only take so much water. Yesterday, for writing group, I literally drank myself too full to cool down with more water.

My poor, poor kitties. I hope they are staying cool.

Before I go home to blog kitty pictures on the black market, have a meme! )

Oh thank Bob, I thought I'd missed it when I saw the news bulletin said "7/17" even though I was reading it today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VIN DIESEL!

Today is the day to wish the Diesel all the best. Watch Pitch Black, chuck The Pacifier out a window, go beat up Scott Speedman and Ice Cube for making XXX: State of the Union. Happy Diesel Day to you all!

Amazing. Kudos to Dr. Barres. I'm gonna go track down his paper asap, but do read the interview with him. A-fucking-mazing. This relates directly to the blog I read about sexual harassment recently in its overall moral: if you don't call sexism for what it is, you let it pass. If you let it pass, it doesn't get exposed and expunged.

This man, when he was a woman, didn't defend himself as he ought to have done, didn't receive the acclaim he ought to have gotten, and only now he's a man can he talk about it and get anyone to listen. Because if he was a woman and he published this article? He'd a be just another bra-burner. Even though evidence is on his side, if he were not a he, we would not be talking about this.

Huh, never posted this...like anyone cares.

(Click here to post your own answers for this meme.)

I miss somebody right now. I don't watch much TV these days.  (There's nothing on in the summer!) × I own lots of books(Since I rarely re-read, not worth it.)
× I wear glasses or contact lenses.  (No way! I have MIGHTY seeing powers.) I love to play video games.  (Addicted, might be the better term.) × I've tried marijuana(Never had to--I always live near enough to potheads to get the general idea.)
I've watched porn movies. × I have been the psycho-ex in a past relationship. I believe honesty is usually the best policy.
I curse sometimes. × I have changed a lot mentally over the last year. × I carry my knife/razor everywhere with me.
it goes on... )

Click for some Superman-related bulletinizing )

Other superhero watch stuff:
-The post-doc in my lab saw Superman Returns this past weekend, but cared more about seeing the trailer for Spider-Man 3 on the big screen. While talking about how awesome he thought that was, he got goose bumps. Talking about Spider-Man 3 gives him goosebumps. This is weird and kind of endearing at the same time.

-JK Simmons says he's got less screen time as J.Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man 3. Pause now for a moment of sorrowful silence that this is so. Hold out hope that Raimi is, indeed, interested in more sequels still and might yet involve J.J. in more adventures.

- The Transformers movie (not to be confused with Transformers: the Movie, which was actually fun) is going to suck, isn't it? And no, I'm not just getting that from the latest Penny Arcade. I watched the promo trailer again. Oh dearie my, no.

-Jon Favreau is doing Iron Man. Uh, okay? Where's the interest? Why him? What angle are they going to take? Batman Begins beat them to the "rich guy fights crime" angle...

-I need to buy the first two volumes of Batman: the Animated Series on DVD. That's not really news, just that I only just now realized that without my old roommate, I have only the third volume. How sad for me.
