Why any show is better with Dutch subtitles

Finally caught last week's episode of Smallville. When the relevant parties get around to convincing the Black Canary to knock that shit off, the words "slutt jobbe" came up. As in "slutt jobbe" is what she shouldn't be doing any more.

I had to stop. I needed a mo.

Er, um. Well, for starters, let's just say that women in real life tend to look more slutty than comic book characters when they parade around in black leather bathing suits and fishnets. She did have a cool mask that was painted on, though.

I know next to nothing about the character, but the show made her out to be right-wing proto-fascist justice-nutty, kinda like the very worst people ever accuse Batman of being. Also, she's sorta dumb because she believes that Lex Luthor is the victim. Riiiiight.

The usual randomly-generated character assasination: She's a mercenary with morals, but kind of dumb. Also, she's the right-wing counterpoint to the rest of the Daily Planet, or something. Which as you note below makes little sense given not only her own attitude, but her choice in life-partner.

The usual hamfisted iconic-costume alteration: They reversed the hair situation, so she wears a long black wig for her civillian identity, to cover up her short, spiky blonde hair (also, stupid facepaint).

The usual power/technique confusery: She seems to be meta beyond her voice, and while she's still all martial-artsy, it's definitely not Judo, or any other kind of soft style, for that matter.

The only real tidbits for fans were her and Ollie flirting and Chloe basing herself out of a very familiar loft behind a clock.

I didn't mind the make-up mask. Even though anvil-dropping plot alerts made it obvious who she was, it was still hard to tell with the makeup. That's an interesting take on the cape-and-cowl set, and it was pretty. It certainly worked better for me than the rest of her outfit.

Also, is there actually a person called Watchtower in the DC-verse? Because that would be an AWESOME place for Chloe (provided she ever survives this series).

Did you get Smallville and Lost from last night? I should have it on my DVR. Also, have to get the new Torchwood and watch last week's... *sigh*

Okay, we need to catch up on Torchwood, yes. I didn't get a chance to watch Smallville because of class, but I did tape LOST. Maybe I'll watch them tonight before I go out to U2.
